Yesterday I was trying to figure out what kind of links to put up here today when I got an email from MBIP Reader, Bruce Weertman and he wrote: “Found this in a shoebox. We used to stay there for the Illinois state xc championship.” And below is what he sent me, a photo of a vintage card from Jumer’s Castle Lodge! That is such a cool card I decided to use it for the Sunday Morning Breakfast Links art. Below that are a half a dozen links that pertain to Jumer’s Castle Lodge! And then there’s the weekly MBIP Coming Attractions right below that. So, there you go! Thanks, Bruce, love the Jumer’s card! I can bearly contain myself! (Oof!)
Iconic hotel closing - Steve Tarter wrote about the hotel closing in 2009 for the PJ Star.
A Bear Beloved - Jumer's may have closed, but the iconic bear lives on at thirty-thirty Coffee Co. as Stevie Sigan reported in 2012 for Peoria Art & Society magazine.
Thirty Thirty Coffee Shop Bear from Jumer's - Apparently the Jumer's bear is pretty popular, he’s taken wearing to shades in this photo to remain somewhat incognito!
Luciano: Jumer’s cinnamon rolls return today – frozen, too! - The Jumer’s Bear is not the only thing still around, their famous cinnamon rolls returned last year, but just for a brief time. I’m guessing they’ll be back next year too!
Hotelier Jumer recalled as ahead of his time - James Jumer, who was the founding owner of Jumer’s Castle Lodge died in 2008. Steve Tarter wrote about is life and achievements in this article.
This Used To Be...Jumer’s Castle Lodge (Now It’s Courtyard Estates) - And last, but certainly not least, this wonderful article about what’s taken the place of Jumer’s Lodge from MBIP!
Tomorrow we continue our monthly vegetarian series with a delicious meal at Khoury’s Cuisine on University Street with special guest stars, Nathalie and Ben! Then we continue our year-long sandwich tour with a stop at a local meat emporium that offers wonderful deli sandwiches for lunch! Tune in Tuesday to discover where this is! Wednesday I’m hoping to check out the final stages of remodeling of what used to be Fleming Potter and is now Persimmon Lofts. I was hoping to do this last week, but some technical difficulties happened and now let’s hope this happens on Wednesday. There’s another thing I’m hoping to do this week for Thursday, but I’m waiting for a message about that, so I’m not going to jinx it by writing about it. And as usual, I have no idea what I’m going to put up here Friday, I’m guessing it’ll have something to do with a local tavern, we’ll see! Till then, have a happy, snappy and blip-blappy Sunday and we’ll see you all here tomorrow!
