Here we go, off on a new food tour and this time it's a meaty adventure as we begin seven months of steak! That's about 28 weeks for this bold and beefy journey and we're off on our maiden voyage! I wanted to choose a starting point that most people would never think of to go for steak and that place is The Fish House. While most of the menu is devoted to selections that have come from the ocean, there are some entrees that would drown in a body of water not much bigger than a large puddle. There's two chicken dishes and four styles of filet on the menu. And while most people don't equate The Fish House with steak, those that have tried one of the filets there certainly do because they serve up some of the tastiest filets in Peoria! I've had them before and I'm going to have them tonight as we begin our first week of steak! To The Fish House we go!
And here we are! Time to start the steak tour. And yes, this is a fishy beginning for this tour, but after you see the filet, I think you’ll understand! Let’s go in and begin week number one!
I love the bar in here because it’s the darkest bar in Peoria! I’m hoping one day to have a beer in here with my old 365 bars co-pilot and fellow lover of dark bars Al! There’s The Fish House bartender, Paul with an ice-cold Budweiser! Always great to see him, but he’s not working alone tonight...
Caitlin is helping him behind the bar. Kaitlin’s worked here for six years and I was amazed we’ve never met! Okay, I placed my order and Paul and Caitlin have gone back to work. So let’s take a look around in here.
I love the dark and rustic atmosphere in The Fish House. This is the dining area behind the bar and there’s the corner table in here. I’m going to eat at this table the next time I come here! Stay tuned for that!
Here’s a couple of fishy items on display back here, The Bombay Crab and a ship in the window.
There’s the dining room and even though it’s kind of late in the evening, they have a good crowd in here. The Fish House has been in business since 1976 and it’s one of Peoria’s most popular restaurants.
Meanwhile, back at the bar...
Paul brought out the famous Fish House dinner rolls. These are the best dinner rolls in Peoria! I even devoted a post to them and you can read that right here. While I’m enjoying the rolls, I gave the camera to Paul to take some Patent-Pending Bartender-Cam Shots back in the kitchen, and here they are!
Patent-Pending Bartender-Cam Shots By Paul!
I ordered the Filet Mignon Duo which is the petite filet served two ways. One is served Oskar Style with jumbo lump crab meat and hollandaise sauce and the other is served with a homemade Tuscan Sauce. I don’t know of any other restaurant in Peoria that serves filets in this fashion.
Here’s Kaitlin with the finished product! Beautiful! And the steaks look really good too! Let’s dig in and have the first bite of this seven month steak tour!
This is an unbelievably tasty steak entree! The filets are really juicy and tender and the two toppings really add to the flavor! It’s quite a unique and delicious steak presentation!
For my side dish I got the au gratin potatoes and they’re a signature dish here. They serve them with slices of potatoes swimming in a bowl of rich and creamy cheddar cheese sauce and they are so good! After I ate all the potatoes, I still had a lot of the cheese sauce left over, so I dipped my steak in it and that was so tasty! Then I took a dinner roll and dipped that in and I was in sleazy cheesy heaven! This was such a fantastic dinner!
Week one is done and it’ll be hard to top this steak dinner! Thanks to Paul, Caitlin and everyone at The Fish House for a wonderful start to our seven month steak tour! We’ll see you all tomorrow!

Four Elsie The Cows—Most people come to The Fish House for fish, but once you try the Filet Mignon Duo, you’ll come back for the beef! And the dinner rolls too, of course!
