Sean Kenny, who owns, operates and created the delicious food menu at Kenny’s Westside Pub has started a new business further up on Farmington Road and I think he’s struck gold...or should I say, Goldie’s? I think I’ll say Goldie’s because that’s the name of his new establishment, well the official title is, Goldie’s Pizza & Slots. Sean’s unique idea for the business is to have homemade take-out and delivery pizza and gaming machines inside of the place. Right now Sean’s waiting on his gaming license to get approved for Goldie’s, but he’s selling pizza right now and I’m dying to try it out, so let’s make tracks to the MBIP and go check Sean’s new venture out!
We’re zooming down Farmington Road at a ankle-jaggling 36 MPH! I feel the need for speed!
Here we are at Goldie’s Pizza & Slots. I love the A-Frame building and check out the snazzy door mat, nice!
As I stepped inside, I met the Goldie’s crew, from left: Jason, Laura and Bo. Jason and Bo are the pizza chefs here and Laura takes calls and handles the cash register and front of the room. She’s a lot prettier than Jason and Bo, so it’s best to keep her out front and those two back in the kitchen slinging pizza pies! Sorry guys, it’s just the way it is!
Check out the original Devin McGlone Goldie’s Chalk art, I love it! There’s the Goldie’s menu, they have 12 and 16 inch pizzas and nine specialty pizzas including: Bacon Cheeseburger, BLT, Buffalo Chicken and Hippie Veggie if you’re not a meat eater. You can also build your own pie, check out the menu by clicking here. In addition to pizza you can also get fresh Mama Steff’s pickles and Salsa here at Goldie’s.
I’m meeting Sean here, but I’m early as always, so let’s take a look around Goldie’s Pizza & Lounge! There’s a comfortable waiting area where you can lounge and wait for your pizza and there’s even coloring books for the young and old to amuse yourself and Laura is doing a fine job of staying in the lines! Check out the nice flat screen TV tucked away in the corner and all of a sudden, boom—the obligatory Goldie’s mirror shot, I love it when that happens! There’s the front of the room where the gaming machines are going to be installed soon.
And here’s the man himself, Sean Kenny! Great to see him and he’s gong to show us how the pizzas are made here at Goldie’s Pizza & Slots! Here he is directing Jason and Bo and now it’s time for these two to go solo! Wow, they really stepped up to the plate and made some tantalizing pizza pies, Sean has trained them well and the pizzas look so tasty! Sean said he’d be happy to send some pizzas somewhere if I wanted to have an impromptu pizza party, so I got hold of a few people and we’re going to go to Mike’s Tavern and have a Goldie’s Pizza Party there and see how the delivery system works.
And so it’s back down Farmington Road we go to the wonderful West Peoria area and Mike’s Tavern. Mike’s is open, so let’s go in, shall we? We shall!
Always feels like home here at Mike’s! I’ve been coming here since 1977! That’s Jeff at the bar, he’s originally from Naperville, but moved here to work for Caterpillar and has become a regular here at Mike's and there’s a friendly face behind the bar, Bret! Great to see him and Bret also works at Haddad’s Market here in West Peoria and he said he’d set us up with a tour there, so stay tuned for that!
Here’s a shot from the other end of the bar and I spy some familiar faces down there, it’s Todd, Michelle and Shannon! So great to see them and I"m happy they came to sample some of Goldie’s take-out pizza and hang out for a while!
PJ and John showed up next and always wonderful to see these two. PJ moved back here a little bit ago and it’s been nice having her here in town!
Oh boy, here’s trouble times two! Scott and West Peoria legend, Bad Brad! Good to see both of these troublemakers!
Mandy and Niki were hanging out at the bar and nice to see Mandy on the other side of the bar for a change! I had never met Niki and it was great to meet and chat with her!
Michelle and Shannon were were sitting and talking on “Death Row” and were joined by Bad Brad.
Okay, according to the vintage Busch Beer sign behind the bar, it’s time to call for the pizzas! Shannon took a shot of me back in the gaming room making the call. The number to call for pizza carry out is 309-713-2173 or you can order delivery online at: order2eatpeoria.com. Goldie’s is part of the Order 2 Eat network and this is a website that you can order food from all over Peoria and have it delivered to your home, restaurant, place of business or just about anywhere. Every restaurant’s menu can be seen on the website and when you order they’ll let you know how long it will be till you get your food. Right now there’s 67 restaurants that you can order from on Order 2 Eat including Goldie’s and Sean’s other bar, Kenny’s Westside Pub. This is really a cool idea and we’ll see how it works tonight!
Meanwhile, back at the bar...
There’s Julie, who I haven’t seen in a while and it was great to see her again and catch up!
It’s always a pleasure to see this gentleman, the Mayor of West Peoria, Mayor Jim Dillon! This is the only guy who has the balls to wear a Jimmy’s shirt into Mike’s! Mayor Dillon said he just got back from Ireland and had a really nice time over there. Great to see and chat with Mayor Dillon, as always!
Wow, that was quick! Here’s Larry from Order 2 Eat in Mike’s parking lot! Hello Larry! Larry brought the Goldie’s pizzas inside and even laid them out for us! Great service and thanks to Larry for being so prompt!
Here’s the four pizza pies that Sean sent to Mike’s and they look and smell fantastic! The top is the Buffalo Chicken, then the BLT, which is Sean’s personal favorite, then the Hippie Veggie and last, but certainly not least, the Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza! Okay, time to dig in and see what this pizza is all about!
This is really tasty and delicious pizza! The crust is cracker thin and the toppings are generous and really full of flavor! My favorite was the Bacon Cheeseburger pictured top and then the Buffalo Chicken. The Bacon Cheeseburger is amazing, there’s two different kinds of cheese and the sauce is really tangy and spicy and I detected a little sweetness too, which balanced it all out. The cheeseburger and smoky bacon add a savory flavor to make this one of the best pizzas around town! The Buffalo chicken has some real kick to it—the sauce is half tomato sauce half buffalo hot sauce and it mixes well with the juicy chicken and rich cheese. Sometimes toppings will make thin crust pizza soggy, but the crust really holds up to the toppings and I really recommend you try this pizza out, either pick up a pie or have it delivered anywhere in town!
Everybody that sampled the pizzas (and they didn’t last long!) really loved them and complimented Sean on bringing more great food to West Peoria!
Dan was enjoying the Buffalo Chicken and said he really liked the spiciness the pizza had.
Shannon said she liked the BLT the best and here’s a cute picture of her in mid-bite!
As you can see from the smile on Dan’s face, he’s become an instant Goldie’s fan! Thanks to Sean for setting all this up and to everyone at Goldie’s and Mike’s for a wonderful evening of friends and tasty pizza! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
