It’s hard to believe, but Christmas is just a week away from now. Like it or hate it, you can’t ignore it. It’ll be everywhere this week and you might as well just get used to it. One thing I really hate about Christmas is a lot of the Christmas music that you just can’t escape at this time of year. Never having to hear, “Feliz Navidad” again in my life is a Christmas wish that sadly never comes true. However, not all Christmas songs suck monkey lungs, so here’s a half dozen that you can listen to this week and not have a feeling of egg-nog induced puke wash over your quivering tum tum. And then there’s the MBIP Coming Attractions as to what you can look forward to here next week!
“Christmas Wrapping” by The Waitresses
I’ve always loved the band The Waitresses and felt they were way ahead of their time. This is a great Christmas song and here’s the band’s songwriter, Chris Butler (who I’ve met!) to tell the story behind the song!
“Father Christmas” by The Kinks
The Kinks put out this song in 1977, the year that punk rock broke and the song has influences of that era. Basically it’s the story of poor kids robbing Santa Claus (Father Christmas). Ho ho ho!
“Merry Christmas (I Don't Want To Fight Tonight)” by The Ramones
This holiday song and video is from The Ramones 11th album, “Brain Drain,” that came out in 1989. It’s notable because it’s the last Ramones album to have Dee Dee Ramone playing bass on it. I like the end of the video which has a nice little Christmas wish from Santa throwing up in a toilet!
“Run Run Rudolph" by Lemmy Kilmister
Because nothing quite says, “Merry Christmas,” like a festive Christmas song by Lemmy from Motorhead!
"Santa Claus Is Back In Town" and "Blue Christmas" by Elvis Presley
It doesn’t get much more badass than this, Elvis doing a couple Christmas songs from his ‘68 Comeback Special.
“Frosty The Snowman” by The Ronettes
In my never quite so humble opinion, the best Christmas album ever is Phil Spector’s “A Christmas Gift For You.” it featured the legendary Wrecking Crew and Darlene Love, The Crystals and The Ronettes. “Frosty The Snowman” by The Ronettes is my favorite song on the album and here it is! Now you can get ready for a week of madness!
This Monday is our third annual holiday drink contest at The Fish House between bartenders, Sam and Paul, pictured above. Who won? Well, tune in to find out! Tuesday we have our 29th sandwich in 29 weeks as our “A Year In The Life Of A Sandwich” food tour continues. I’m not sure what’s going up here Wednesday, but Thursday is a special holiday luncheon with Mae and Chip, the MBIP Contest winners! Friday is the Second Annual Nathalie and Marty Holiday Dinner @ Jim’s Steak House! And there’s going to be a rare brand new post on Saturday (Christmas Eve) from a Christmas Party on the Greg and Dan Show, this Friday. I have to be there at 5:30AM! So I have to go and get my beauty sleep now! We’ll see you all next week, have a wonderful and funderful Sunday!
