We’ve had specialty drinks and a Saturday night dinner at the Country Club BBQ on Farmington Road, but we haven’t sampled the chicken wings there yet. I’ve heard good things about them and several people have recommended them for this chicken wing tour, so I think that in a Joe Cocker-like moment, it’s high time we went!
Here we are at the Country Club BBQ parking lot. A thunderstorm just bolted through and left the surroundings looking pretty amazing. Love the thunderstorm aftermath!
Let’s head on in and start week number seven of our twelve week chicken wing tour!
It’s early in the evening so there’s plenty of seats at the bar, but can we just sit anywhere?
Why of course we can! Here’s Clay, the friendly owner of Country Club BBQ pointing to that fact, so let’s plop down at the bar and let the proceedings begin in an orderly fashion.
Bartender Ethan begins the proceedings by serving up an ice-cold beer and Clay said that they’d bring out a sampling of all of the flavors of wings here, perfect! While the wings are being prepared, let’s take a little tour of this Country Club on Farmington Road.
They have a nice selection of beers on tap and the 1919 tap, fourth from the left, is adult root beer, I’ve had that and it’s a taste treat you should check out!
Here’s the game room complete with a shuffleboard and pool table and a dart board that’s not pictured.
All of the meat here is supplied by Raber Packing Company where we had a fun tour about a month ago.
Picnic table seating can be had in this elevated section opposite the bar. Love that Shiner sign!
There’s a party that looks like they’re having fun, let’s go say hello to them...
This is the DJ area that gets taken over by the fine folks from White Folks Get Crunk, the best DJ’s in the world. They’re Crunkalicious!
And here’s the dance floor that gets packed when the White Folks Get Crunk crew are spinning their patent-pending Crunkified tunes.
There’s another bar here in the back...
And this door lead to yet another bar...
Back in the beer garden/patio area. Photo fun is happening at the bar!
As you can see, this is a spacious beer garden back here.
This island gets lit up in the winter time, but since it’s so hot out tonight no flames are being fired.
Here’s Mariah and Matt enjoying themselves back here. This photo was taken one day away from Matt’s birthday, happy birthday, Matt!
As you can see, there’s a nice view of the parking lot and Farmington Road back here.
As I made my way back to the bar I ran into Ivan and Josh who told me they are regular readers of MBIP. I never get tired of hearing that and thanks to both of them for reading and posing for the MBIP camera! Cheers, guys!
Okay, let’s go check in at the kitchen and see how the wing order is coming...
This is the Country Club’s executive chef, Mick busy at the deep fryer.
He’s saucing the wings up and plating them and before you know it...
We have a “ta-da” moment at the bar! Here’s the wings...ta da!
Here’s the wings representing the four flavors at the Country Club BBQ. Clockwise from left: Pecan Whiskey, Hot, Naked and Mild. They look and smell fantastic!
And for a palate cleanser between flavor sampling, Clay picked out four different shots to drink between wings.
Wow, the Pecan Whiskey wing really is tasty! And I love the fact that they serve up the whole wing in here.
Time for a palate cleanser! The mini mason jars these shots come in are really cool.
These wings are outstanding, they’re all really tasty, but my favorite is the hot wings. They have heat, but also a nice spicy and smoky unique flavor to them. Chef Mick told me that the process that they make the wings is not easy. They get the wings from Raber’s, cut them up and put dry rub and seasonings on them and let them sit overnight. Then they put them in the smoker for four to six hours and then they fry and sauce them to order. It’s a painstaking process that pays off, these are some of the best wings I’ve ever had!
Weekly napkins and bones shot!
And here’s a paring shot from Clay and I downing a couple more mini Mason Jar shots for dessert! Thanks to Clay, Ethan, Mick and everyone at the Country Club BBQ for a great chicken wing sampling and evening! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
Chicken Wing Rating
The wings here are really special and well-prepared and so they get an elusive four wing rating. So far they’re tied with Kenny’s for the best wings in town. Looks like we may have a showdown on our hands, so stay tuned for that!
