Okay, we’re into our second week of the MBIP Twelve Weeks Of Wings tour. I’m excited about tonight’s stop because it’s going to take place at Kenny’s Westside Pub. The owner of Kenny’s, Sean Kenny always makes a specialty item for the MBIP food tours that becomes an off-menu dish that you can order at Kenny’s, if you’re in the know. He’s going to make some special wings tonight and I can’t wait to see what he comes up with. Can it beat the Marty Womburger or the Cheesy Marty Pizza? Well, tonight we find out, but first...
Someone’s knocking on the door, let’s see who it it is...
It’s MBIP Contributing Writer, pal and official road trip Wheelman, Scott Turley! He’ll be behind the wheel tonight...
See, there he is driving us to drink! Drive Scott, drive!
And here we are at Kenny’s Westside Pub, on Farmington Road in the Fred District. Let’s go inside and see what’s shaking.
Wow, it’s crowded in here, this side of the bar is pretty much filled up so...
We’ll plant ourselved over on the other side and check it out, there’s Cramer!
Bartender Samad serves up a cold beer with a great smile! Things are going smoothly so far.
Here’s the view from our vantage point from this side of the bar in Kenny’s Westside Pub. Let’s take a little look around in here before we order our chicken wings.
I love the artwork and vintage pictures on the walls and was headed to one in particular when someone shouted out at me...
It’s Rita, who we met right here when we were doing the Twenty Tenderloin Tour! Very nice to see her again and she’s hanging out with Allison over there in the right in this booth. Okay, now on to that piece of art I want to highlight...
This is a Grateful Dead/Kenny’s Westside Pub inspired piece of art done by Bob Whitaker. We first met Bob at The Hofbrau House doing our World Beer Tour and Bob has a whole wall dedicated to him there. Check that out at this post. Great artwork by Bob!
This bar was originally owned by Bill King and here’s a poster of him running for City Council. He was the “Voter’s Voice.” Ha, I don’t know why, but that cracks me the fuck up!
Meanwhile, back at the bar, here’s Skyler and Cody, who told me they’re fans of MBIP, which is cool. What’s not cool is how the MBIP camera fuzzed out this photo. Sometimes I hate the MBIP camera and this is one of those instances. HATE the MBIP camera! ***Update: I just found out that Skyler is a guitarist with the band Mindset Evolution, check out their tour dates here.
And here he is, the star of today’s chicken wing blog, Sean Kenny. Sean said he has a special chicken wing recipe that he’s going to dedicate to this food tour, but first he wanted to show me something outside...
It’s this ultra-cool new bike rack made out of bike parts and colorfully painted. It’s supplied by Bike Peoria Co-Op, who is setting a program to put sponsored bike racks all over the city. They asked Sean if he’d start out this bike rack program and he designed this rack.
Sean told me that Chad the guy who runs the Co-Op donated the old frames, Sean’s cousin Nick is a welder who fabricated the bike rack and it was painted by Jeremy Isbell who’s a musician and works at D’s Paint and Body Shop in Peoria Heights. Very cool. Okay, now I’m in the mood for some chicken wings!
Ask and you shall receive! Before Sean whips up the specialty wings for this food tour, he served up two of the wing choices off the menu. There’s 11 flavors of wings on the menu and these are two of the most popular...
On the left are the classic mild chicken wings and on the right there’s the Terriyaki Parm wings.
I’ve taken a wing and a drumette of each and peppered them up and now we’ve begun the all-important cooling process, as I don’t like to eat food that’s too hot and it’s also a really good excuse to...
Have a beer while they cool. Cheers and beers and puppeteers!
Wow, those were good, but they quickly got reduced to a pile of bones and napkins. The Terriyaki Parm wings were really exceptional! And now onto tonight’s specialty wings that Sean’s going to create especially for this chicken wing tour, I can’t wait for this!
It all starts off with this can of Jif peanut butter. Yep, Sean’s making us peanut butter wings! I’m not even going to ask him what he’s been smoking to come up with this brand new chicken wing recipe because it’s none of our business! I’m just looking forward to seeing this new recipe go down and then tasting the results!
First a healthy dollop of the peanut butter goes into this bowl. In fact he dumped the entire jar in here. These are going to be some nutty, nutty wings!
A little water is then spritzed onto the peanut butter pile.
Then Sean adds an equal mixture of the mild hot sauce to the peanut butter.
A spoonful of soy sauce is ladled on next, this is getting interesting and I’m getting hungry!
Brown sugar is sprinkled on like pixie dust shaken over a pile of freshly bloomed shamrocks. I’m not sure what that means, but I just typed it, so there!
Sean explained that the next step is to drink a half a bottle of Budweiser and then...
Dump the remaining beer into the sauce! I love this part of the recipe!
Here’s the sauce being mixed toghether. Lots of tastes and flavors in this sauce and I can’t wait to taste it!
And here’s Sean putting the finishing stirs on the specialty sauce.
The chicken wings are fried and Sean said we should head back to the bar and he’d serve them up. I can’t wait to try these!
The chicken wings are served!
Wow, they look and smell fantastic!
Oh my God, these are so good! I swear these are the best chicken wings I’ve ever had. We needed to think of a name for them and Scott thought of this genius name: “Meanwhile, Back In Peanut Butter Wings.” Ha, that’s perfect, thanks, Scott. These are another off-menu item you can order at Kenny’s and I suggest you stop in and try them. I swear these are the best and most original wings I’ve ever had, you should definitely try them. Thanks to Sean for creating yet another unique food item for our MBIP food tours! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
Chicken Wing Rating:
Four Wings guitar picks. These are the best chicken wings I’ve ever had in my life. They’re not on the menu, but if you like chicken wings, stop in to Kenny’s Westside Pub and order the Meanwhile, Back In Peanut Biutter Wings. You won’t believe the fantastic and unique taste of them! Thanks to Sean for whipping up another fantastic off-menu item related to MBIP and to Scott Turley for coming up with the name for the wings!

Bonus Jaws Art!
Jaws the Cabbie sent in this artwork showing peanut afficionado George Washington Carver giving his review of Kenny’s “Meanwhile Back In Peanut Butter” wings. Ha! Nice work, Jaws, thanks!
