Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night Cheeseburger starring this week’s host, New Amsterdam with special guest star, LIsa and featuring The Ready For Prime Beef Player, Marty Wombacher. And now, please welcome this week’s host from beautiful downtown Peoria, New Amsterdam!
Okay, we’re walking down Water Street to the Blue Duck BBQ restaurant. I work fairly close by and thought we’d hoof it on over there, it’s a nice night out and thankfully the sun is starting to go down and sweet darkness will soon descend upon us.
Here we are at Blue Duck BBQ, this place just opened up a couple months ago and has become a very popular spot. They got a great review in the PJ Star last week, so that didn’t hurt matters either, let’s go inside...
The place is packed and there’s over a half an hour wait for a table, I think we’re going to have to improvise tonight, but first let’s find tonight’s special guest star...
Lisa, who’s looking pretty and has snagged the last seat at the bar! I met Lisa about a year ago at CVS drug store and she recognized me from the blog and we had a nice chat and said we should hang out sometime. Well, tonight’s the night but we both agreed it was too crowded in here and we should head out to another spot. It’s really hard to do a blog post when it’s this crowded.
Before we left, Annie the bartender came over and said hi. I met Annie when I had dinner in here when I was taking my blogging break. She’s great and I told her I’d be back when things have settled down a little in there!
And it’s back to Water Street...
Up the stairway to...
New Amsterdam! I told Lisa I really like to sit at the bar and she said that’s where she prefers to dine too so...
Let’s go in and see if there’s any seats to be had at the bar.
Yes, there’s two seats down in the middle of the bar, so we quickly made tracks and grabbed them and settled in for the evening.
Things are going great now as bartender Mariah serves up a bottle of Dos Equis and Saturdy Night has begun. Isn’t she gorgeous?
There’s round wooden tables directly behind the bar.
Black leather booths are lined up in a vertical fashion in the middle of New Amsterdam.
I love this painting of Dino, Sammy and Frank!
The dining area is scarcely populated because...
Everybody’s out here in the beer garden! New Amsterdam has a huge beer garden and it’s one of the more popular one’s in Peoria!
This is Scott who was the DJ for the night. I took his card and then lost it, if you’re seeing this Scott and want me to put up a link for your DJ service, just send me an email. ***Update, just got some information that Scott is the owner of Ace Entertainment and Event Management. Check out the facecrack page right here!
As you can see, it’s really crowded out here and people are loving this summer weather!
Eric and Jessica were two people in the crowd enjoying the night out. This was their first time to New Amsterdam and they said they loved it.
There’s 28 rotating beers on tap. Have you ever seen 28 rotating beers on tap?
Well, baboom! Now you have because this is just happens to be a picture of the aforementioned 28 rotating beers on tap. It’s so nice when things fall into place like this!
They have Crown Royal on tap, I’ve never seen that anywhere before!
A longshot of the highly polished wooden bar at New Amsterdam.
I ran into Ali, who we last saw at Rizzi’s on State, which sadly closed a little while back. On a happier note, the Sheridan Street location is still open!
Kyle came up and said, “Howdy Doody.” Kyle bartends at Kenny’s Westside Pub and was bartending the night we went there and got the Cheesy Marty Pizza. He said people are still coming in and asking for that off the menu pie. Very cool! And tomorrow we have a post from Kenny’s which is our second week of the twelve weeks of wings tour, stay tuned for that!
David and Aundrea were at the end of the bar and happily posed for the roving MBIP camera. David’s a firefighter and said that he got into that line of works to meet women! Well he sure met a pretty one and they’re engaged to be married! Cheers and early congratulations to this good looking and fun couple!
Here’s the owner of New Amsterdam, Todd. He was relieved to see me in men’s clothing for a change!
Lisa and I got caught up in conversation and I forgot to take pictures of our dinner. Luckily we had some leftovers and here’s some shots of them. This is the leftover chili which is really tasty and is served without beans, the way true chili is made!
The chili comes with crusty bread and we also got chicken quesadilla which were very good. We started with an appetizer of lobster rangoon and we ate all of that, so you’ll have to just imagine what that looks like or go to New Amsterdam and order it yourself. Anyway, it was a great night and thanks to Lisa for hanging out with me and being a fun dinner companion. We’ll see you all tomorrow!
We had the lobster rangoon for a starter and it was really delicious. They’re a crispy dumpling, deep-fried and filled with melted cream cheese and lobster. How can you go wrong with those ingredients?
For the main course we split a cup of the chili and an order of the chicken quesadillas. The chili comes topped with shredded cheese on top and is just a little spicy with a bit of sweetness that kicks off in your tastebuds. And it’s free of beans, the way chili should be! The chicken quesadillas were very tasty as well. Crispy tortillas stuffed with equal amounts of succulent chicken and melted monterey jack cheese. Another fine meal at New Amsterdam!
