Yesterday I got a new hairdo and today I thought I’d have some grooming done on the opposite end of my body, my feet! Last July I got a barbershop shave at Menzoil Grooming Station and Barber Shop. Afterwards, Lisa, who owns Menzoil told me that they also do pedicures for men. I’ve never had a pedicure and told her that I’d be back to try that out. I told MBIP pal, Wheelman and Contributing Writer, Scott Turley about my pedicure discovery and he said he’d like to have one too. And then we decided to have a little contest as to who could get their feet into the worst and grungiest condition for this pedicure. It’s been a few months since we started letting our feet go and I have to tell you, mine are pretty scary looking, especially my left big toe. I’m anxious to see how bad Scott let his feets go and...
That knocking noise tells me we’ll find out soon, because...
Here’s Scott!
And it’s off we go on Interstate 74 on our way to...
Menzoil Grooming Station and Barber Shop in East Peoria!
I love the outside chairs they have in front of the shop!
The front room is so impressive in here! You really feel like you’re walking back in time into a real vintage men’s barber shop. And there’s the pretty owner, Lisa greeting us!
And here’s yet another pretty face at Menzoil, C.C. C.C. is going to be giving Scott and I our pedicures.
Here’s the inner sanctum of Menzoil and it’s so cool in here, let’s take a look around!
This is the only barber shop I know of that has a pool table in it. So cool!
There’s a lounge area over here where you can kick back and relax before your haircut, shave or pedicure.
Suddenly...Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots!
One of the greatest things about Menzoil is that they have beer and cocktails in here! Here’s C.C. with a bottle of Dos Equis beer!
There’s even a bar area over here to relax and enjoy the drink of your choice. I love this place!
Here’s a vintage apothecary display case with specialty soaps and shaving supplies for sale.
The barber stations have an elegant throwback feel from the old-school barbershop era.
Here’s the pedicure area.
Cheers from Scott and I! Now it’s time to put our best feets forwards!
Here’s a close up of Scott’s feet. When I saw his feet, I felt bad for C.C. because mine are so much worse! You’ll see soon, but I warn you, my feet aren’t for the faint of heart! Okay, let’s see what C.C. does with Scott’s ten little piggies!
The pedicure here is a mulit-layered process. It starts with trimming the toenails, then oils get added to the water, feet get buffed and pampered and at the end you get a nice soothing foot massage. Scott said it felt so good and was so relaxing, I can’t wait for my turn, but I’m also feeling bad for C.C. because my feet are a real nightmare! Let’s take a look at Scott’s feet after his pedicure.
Wow, C.C. did a great job with Scott’s feet! Looking good!
While we’re having our pedicures, Lisa is busy over here cutting Jamie’s hair. Jamie’s a regular here and the client list is growing, so if you want to stop by, call for an appointment. The number’s at the bottom of the post. Okay, now it’s time to show my feet. I take contests real seriously, so when Scott said he was going to let his feet go and not trim his toenails, I did the same thing, but mine really are pretty scary. So if you’re eating you might want to finish up before you scroll any further. Okay, don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Yes, these are the feet from hell! I stopped trimming my toenails about three months ago and most of them kept chipping off, but the toenail on my left big toe kind of took on a life of his own! It just kept growing wouldn’t break off! I call it my Flock of Seagulls toe! C.C. has her work cut out for her with these ten scary toes, but to her credit she jumped right in! Of course the big toe was the first challenge, so she tackled that first! (Oh and that’s a tattoo of Boy George on my right foot, it’s a long story, but aren’t they all?)
The Big Toe Challenge
I asked C.C. if she could remove the toenail in one piece and she said she’d try. We soaked the toe in hot water and then she oiled it up and trimmed it and cut it off successfully! She said it was the longest toenail she’d ever seen. I kept it as a souvenir and may send it into the Guinness Book of World Records! Okay, now onto the other toes on my feets!
If you ‘ve never had a pedicure, I highly recommend it! It’s so relaxing! And C.C. is a master at massaging all the pressure points and when you’re done you’re feet feel brand new. And to prove she’s a miracle worker...
Check out my feet now! They look and feel so great! Thanks to C.C. for a wonderful pedicure and to Lisa for the beers, good times and hospitality at Menzoil Grooming Station and Barber Shop! And I found out that they also do manicures here, so I’m going to come back soon to see if they really put the “Man” in manicures here!
After a long dry spell, a couple of MBIP readers have bought me a virtual beer via the Virtual Beer PayPal page! Brian Rambke sent in a generous donation all the way from Fort Lauderdale, Florida and MBIP commenter and quote giver, Ragin’ RR also sent in a nice donation! Thanks to both of them for the virtual beers this week! If you’d like to send a few bucks and buy MBIP a virtual beer and help keep this blog rolling along, check out the details right here! Thanks again to Lisa and C.C. at Menzoil and to Scott for driving and hanging out with me! We’ll see you all tomorrow!

A Challenge From Jaws The Cabbie!
Jaws the Cabbie sent in these feet as a challenge for C.C! Hey, after the miracle she pulled off with my tootsies, I think she could definitely handle these! Thanks, Jaws!
