I’ve decided that for these Friday posts where I go out on Thursday nights, sometimes I’m going to incorporate a favorite food of mine that I’ve discovered in my travels around Peoria. Tonight it’s the deviled eggs at Salt on restaurant row in the Heights on Prospect Avenue. I love deviled eggs and I’ve had them all over Peoria, Chicago, New York and anyplace else in my travels where I can find them. But of all the deviled eggs I’ve had, the very best in my opinion are at Salt. And Salt is located within walking distance of The Navy-Marine Club, so I thought I’d have Mark whip us up a drink from the blender I donated to the club in this post. And so, it’s off we go!
Here we are at Salt, I love the signage here!
The cyan lighting at the bar is warm and inviting...and who’s that over there...
It’s Ray, the General Manager of Salt, greeting and seating people as they enter. Ray’s one of the nicest guys in the world! Always love to see and chat with him!
And here’s Josh the friendly bartender pouring us a pre-deviled egg beer!
It’s a Fat Tire and it’s delicious! Perfect appetizer to whet our whistle.
The order for the eggs is in, so let’s take a quick tour in here! There’s tables opposite the bar.
And speaking of the bar, here it is in all it’s lit up glory! I really like the back of the bar in here, it’s really a nice design.
The dining room is colored in a warm orange hue.
And as I make my way back to the bar, here’s Josh with a quartet of the best deviled eggs in the whole wide world!
Ground pepper is a must for these eggs of deviled delight!
Wow, they always look so delicious! The outside is deep fried with a panko crust and the filling is seasoned with sriracha and that’s no yolk! Yikes, sorry about that, it couldn’t be helped! The eggs are topped with a slice of crispy sugar-cured bacon.
These are like little taste explosions going off in your mouth and the creaminess of the filling combined with crunch of the panko crust and the bacon make for great yin and yang textures. They are so tasty! If you’ve never had them you need to try them!
And one of the great things about Salt is that it’s within hoofing distance to the Navy-Marine Club, one of my favorite hang-outs!
And I’m a card-carrying member, so I don’t have to use the buzzer!
There’s a real clubhouse feel to this place and it’s a fun place to hang out and shoot the shit with other like-minded people.
Here’s Mark the friendly night-time bartender serving up an ice cold Budweiser! Cheers!
Seated over at the side of the bar are, Devin, Bo and Julie. Devon’s a well-known artist around town and you can read more about him here. Bo and Julie own Lucky’s Modern Dive, just around the corner on Prospect. I need to stop back in there soon, it’s been a while!
I asked Mark to whip us up a drink on the MBIP blender and he's looking up a recipe on his phone.
And here he is flying into action!
The first in a series of Navy-Marine blender drinks is served up!
It’s a cherry margarita and it looks frosty and tasty!
Great work by Mark, it’s delicious!
Bo sampled it as well and Julie looks anxiously at him, waiting for her turn at the glass!
We all loved it! Wonderful work by Mark and we’ll be back in a month or so to test his blending drink skills again! We’ll see you all tomorrow...and hey, let’s be careful out there!
