The Sunday Lou’s Drive-In Palate Cleanser - This Week: Root Beer, Chili Dog, French Fries & Popcorn

by MBIP

Lou’s Drive-In had their opening day yesterday and I decided that I’d start a new Sunday series for this summer from there.

What’s I’ve decided to do is to go to Lou’s every week and eat the entire menu, week by week (I adjusted the menu slightly and I’ll explain that down at the end of this post.)

I thought this would be a fun weekly break from the bar posts, a weekly palate cleanser with treats from Lou’s Drive-In!

Let’s head over to Lou’s and start this new series!

The Sunday Lou’s Drive-In Palate Cleanser: Week Number One

Here we are at Lou’s Drive-In and they have a nice crowd for the opening day of May 2, 2026!

And there’s that iconic Lou’s Drive-In sign out front! Aways great to see it all lit up for the season!

I love the vintage signage hanging over the Lou’s Island.

Normally, I’d sit here at the island but since this is a whole summer series focusing on the food, I thought I’d get the order to go, so I could document the food better back at the MBIP World Headquarters.

You place your to-go order here at the front window. Let’s get in line.

Isabel took our order and posed for the photo while flashing a beautiful smile!

Here she is ringing up our order. Next stop is…

The MBIP World Headquarters

We’re back with the first of many meals from Lou’s Drive-In this summer. I got the classic Lou’s dinner: A large Root Beer, French Fries and a Chili Dog. Everything looks fantastic!

The Root Beer is fantastic as always, and the French Fries are crispy and seasoned perfectly. We’re off to a fantastic start tonight!

And now for the star of tonight’s show, the Lou’s Chili Dog!

I got it with chopped onions and it’s a savory and delicious treat! The bun is bakery fresh and this is a fantastic and tasty chili dog!

So what’s in the large bag you may be wondering right now…

It’s a bag of Lou’s famous popcorn, popped fresh on the premises.

This is a medium bag, can you imagine how big the large bag is?

I’m full from dinner, so the pro tip here is to take the popcorn, pour it into a bowl and cover it for later tonight.

A Little After Midnight…

Okay, hours later and I’m hungry again, so it’s Lou’s popcorn time! We’ll spice it up with some onion salt, chili powder and Cajun seasoning.

We’ll pop it in the microwave and it’s a delicious midnight snack! And instead of Root Beer, we’ll just go with beer! Cheers!

The Menu

Here’s the menu we’ll be following all summer long as we eat our way through this thing. As I mentioned way up at the top of this post, this menu is adjusted somewhat.

They sell a plain hamburger, which you’d have to be a totally bumbling dumbfuck to order when there’s a cheeseburger on the menu, so I took that off. They also offer a double hamburger which you’d have to be twice the bumbling dumbfuck to order when there’s a double cheeseburger on the menu, so I took that off as well.

I also got rid of any strawberry or pineapple flavors on the drink and ice cream menu because those flavors are something that no tastebuds should ever have to encounter. We’ll stick to vanilla and chocolate with the occassional butterscotch thrown in for good measure.

This week we had the classic Lou’s Drive-In meal of a Root Beer, a chili dog, an order of fries and a medium bag of their freshly-popped popcorn.

It was a delicious treat and a fabulous start to this weekly eating of the Lou’s menu! We’ll be back for more Lou’s treats next Sunday, stay tuned!
