Four our fourth week of sampling appetizers around Peoria, I thought we’d go and try out some pre-dinner treats from one of Peoria’s oldest Chinese restaurants, Ming Shee. They’ve been cooking selling Chinese food from the same location on University Street for decades. They also have an appetizer that is very unique for a Chinese restaurant.
Let’s head over to Ming Shee and I’ll reveal this mystery appetizer to you!
Here we are at Ming Shee, which has been at this location on University for over 49 years! Let’s go inside and start week number four of this appetizer tour!
I thought we’d try a trio of appetizers in here including Crabmeat Rangoon, Fried Biscuit and that mystery appetizer that you never see in a Chinese resturant, Buffalo Wings!
Ming Shee is the only Chinese restaurant I know of offering Buffalo Wings as an appetizer! I’ve had them many times and they are delicious, keep on scrolling to see photos of them!
You order up here at this counter.
The dining room is just through this Chinese portal. Let’s go get a seat and wait for this week’s appetizers!
Booths line the front wall in here, but since I’m dining alone, I don’t want to hog a whole booth.
I chose this back corner table in the main dining room.
Here’s the view out the window of University street and there’s my view of the dining room where a couple other people have settled in with their food.

Appetizer Number One: Crabmeat Rangoon
Crabmeant Rangoon is one of my favorite Chinese appetizers.
It comes with a dipping sauce and here’s a little hack for the sauce, add some hot Chinese mustard to it. The sauce is sweet and this adds some heat to the mix.
The Crabmeat Rangoon is a favorite Chinese appetizer of mine! The outside shell is crispy and the inside is a creamy and rich crab filling. The sauce is a nice mix of sweet and heat thanks to the Chinese mustard hack and this is a delicious appetizer.
We’re off to a fabulous start!

Appetizer Number Two: Buffalo Wings
Ming Shee is definitely the only Chinese restaurant in Peoria that has Buffalo Wings on the menu and it just might be the only Chinese restaurant in the country that serves these up.
These Buffalo Wings are fabulous! They’re cooked in a spicy Buffalo sauce and they have just the right amount of heat and zing. The wings are so flavorful and juicy and you’d never expect to get Buffalo Wings of this quality at a Chinese restaurant!

Appetizer Number Three: Fried Biscuit
I’ve never had or noticed the Fried biscuit on the appetizer menu, so I ordered it out of curiosity. I was just expecting one biscuit, but the order comes with nine round biscuits dusted with powdered sugar.
Let’s take a bite and see how these taste.
Wow, these are light, airy, fried biscuits. A perfect dessert appetizer to finish off with!

Appetizer Rating
From here on in, when I have multiple appetizers, I thought I’d pick my favorite and rate that and while all three of these were tasty and delightful appetizers, my favorite was the Buffalo Wings.
These would be wonderful Buffalo Wings at any restaurant, but the novelty of getting genuine Buffalo Wings at a Chinese restaurant adds to the wonderful flavor of these wings.
I’ll give them a high rating of 3.5 Deviled Eggs.
