Meanwhile, Back In Peoria’s Past - This Week: Fleetwood Mac In Concert At Glen Oak Park In The Summer Of 1976

by MBIP

June 25th, 1976 was a memorable night for me. I had just graduated from high school and Fleetwood Mac was scheduled to play a concert at the Glen Oak Park Amphitheatre with Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer Group opening up the show.

Fleetwood Mac had released their first self-titled album with Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks a year earlier and it took a while but the album eventually blew up. By the time they played Glen Oak Park, the song, “Rhiannon” was a huge hit.

It’s hard to believe that was 48 years ago this coming Tuesday! In honor of this anniversary, I’ve got some photos and memories of that fantastic day that I was lucky to be a part of!

Below is the poster from the show and photos of Stevie Nicks onstage at Glen Oak Park with links to the online sites where I found the photos. There’s also a links to stories about the concert that took place right here in Peoria back in 1976.

I found this on Pinterest and it’s originally from this website.

It’s a poster announcing the show, I wish it had how much the tickets were! I’m sure it was under ten bucks!

Here’s another one of Stevie Nicks I found on Pinterest and it originates from this Tumblr account.

This is the whole band except for Christine McVie, well you can see the top of her head if you look real close. I found this on a Fleetwood Mac facecrack page.

My Favorite Moment From The Concert

My favorite moment from the show was inching my way up to the front of the stage and staring up at Stevie Nicks singing “Landslide" with Lindsey Buckingham on a stool fingerpicking an acoustic guitar and Christine McVie on the electric piano.

I had wormed my way right up to the front of the stage and Stevie was singing right above me! When the song ended, I screamed out, “I love you, Stevie!” And I swear she looked down and smiled at me!

It was a moment that at the time lasted forever and I’ll never forget it.

I had been drinking and smoking wacky tobacky and it was truly a magical moment from a magical evening which is now a magical memory.

Okay, I’ve written the word, “magical” four times now which means I must leave within 37 seconds. Have a fabulous Saturday everyone!
