It’s the first Sunday of the month and that means we need to get on the road…whoops-a-doozie…someone’s knocking at the door…
It’s Jack Kerouac…yeah, you did write the classic novel, “On The Road,” but we’ve got another driver showing up…and well…you’re in black and white, not that there’s anything wrong with that…but this is MBIP and we’re in living color, so you go hit that road, maybe find your buddy Neal Cassady and have a fun little trip with him!
And there goes the door again…but this time it’s the man we’re waiting for, Scott Hurley, the official MBIP Pal and Wheelman and the fellow who plans these monthly trips! Always a pleasure to see Scott and we usually have a pre-road trip beer here at MBIP World Headquarters!
It was my birthday a couple of weeks ago and Scott brought me a nice card and gift and I will treasure and wear this gift with pride, it’s a Mars Bar t-shirt! I’ve never seen a Mars Bar t-shirt and that was my favorite bar in New York City!
Thanks, Scott, I’ll happily wear this, having been a proud Mars Bar regular before it was torn down!
Alright, we’re on the road again and there’s Scott behind the wheel.
Last Friday was Cinco De Mayo, so Scott decided we’d take a trip to Blue Margaritas, a Mexican bar and grill that neither of us has been to and we’re going to have our own little tribute to that beloved Mexican holiday!
Here we are at Blue Margaritas in Washington, Illinois!
As always, Scott leads the way inside!
We sat at the bar and right away we got chips, salsa and margaritas, so that was great!
What wasn’t so great is that they seemed pretty uncomfortable with me doing a blog in there. I always ask before I start snapping a lot of photos of the place and twice I asked and twice I was told, “Um, one second please…” Then they walked away and didn’t come back.
It was pretty awkward to say the least, so both Scott and I thought it might be best to try another place that maybe was a little more blog friendly!
We decided to visit Kep’s Sports Bar & Grill which is close by.
Scott and I actually did a road trip here back in 2015! They were friendly back then, let’s see what kind of reception we get today!
Wow, I forgot how big the bar is in here! Scott landed a place for us and then Amanda, the pretty bartender for the afternoon served us up two margaritas in keeping with our Cinco De Mayo theme.
She was not only pretty, she was super-nice and told me to feel free to take all the pictures I wanted.
Nice! Okay we’ve bounced back and are back in business!
As you can see, they have a nice amount of beers on tap behind the bar!
The dining area is huge and there’s large communal tables that line the walls.
They have arcade games in here and actual gambling gaming as well, so there’s every layer of gaming represented in here!
There’s the kitchen and speaking of the kitchen, let’s get back to our seats at the bar because…
Our road trip meal is being served!
We started off with an appetizer order of the pretzel breadsticks that come with melted queso cheese.
These were so good and as you can see, Scott took off his hat and glasses which means he’s ready for some serious snacking here!
Scott stayed true to the Cinco De Mayo theme and got a trio of tacos, I however strayed and got habanero hot chicken wings.
There’s Scott enjoying his tacos.
The habanero hot wings were incredibly hot. In fact they caused a Paris Hilton flashback!
Thanks, as always, to Scott for driving, dreaming up another road trip edition and for the cool Mars Bar t-shirt present and to Amanda and everyone at Kep’s for a great post Cinco De Mayo Sunday afternoon!
