The Fox Pub & Cafe has a “toasted cheese” sandwich on their unique and eclectic menu. I’d say a toasted cheese sandwich is close enough to a grilled cheese sandwich, so let’s go over to the Fox Pub and try it out!
Here we are at the Fox Pub & Cafe in Pioneer Park.
The patio furniture is set up outside, but I think we’ll be eating inside today, so let’s go through these two doors to the inner sanctum of the Fox Pub & Cafe!
I was met at the host station up front by the lovely and friendly, Casea. She told me to feel free to sit anywhere I want. Very nice!
I spied a familiar back at a table over there and sure enough, it’s our grilled cheese guest star of the week, MBIP Wheelman and pal, Scott Turley!
Great to see him on a rare non-road trip post and I love his t-shirt! Too funny!
After a quick scan of the menu, I spotted the sandwich I came to sample, Churchill’s Cheese Toasty.
It’s a toasted cheddar cheese sandwich served with a cup of Sergeant Pepper’s Tomato Bisque. I’ve had that tomato bisque and it’s delicious and I think it will pair up nicely with the toasted cheese sandwich!
And of course I added bacon to the sandwich!
After I ordered, I took a stroll up to the bar to get a photo of the many beers on tap here! They have a rotating selection of draft beers, so there’s something new to sample all the time!
Here’s a long-shot of the wooden bar and there’s the beer menu hanging on the wall behind the bar.
There’s cocktail tables opposite the bar and there’s a shot of the main dining area.
The theme of the Fox Pub is: “Eat, Drink and Be English,” so there’s lots of British art and artifacts on the walls and on display in here.
This is Peoria’s only English-themed pub and in addition to the wonderful food and drink, I love the friendly English atmosphere in here!
There’s a large back dining area as well, so there’s rarely a wait for a table in here, even at peak times.
Meanwhile, back at our table in the main dining area…
Our lunches are served!
Scott got the Corned Beef Bap which is juicy corned beef with cheddar cheese and served on an English-styled Bap freshly baked bun.
It came withe hand-cut, house made French fries.
Scott said the sandwich and fries were fantastic and absolutely delicious. He then added that he’s never had a bad meal at Fox Pub. I agree with him on all counts!
And now on to the Fox Pub’s English version of a grilled cheese, the Churchill’s Cheese Toasty.
It looks wonderful with buttered toasted bread and lots of melted cheddar cheese and bacon. It comes with a cup of the Sergeant Pepper’s Tomato Bisque, so let’s try that first!
I’ve had this before, so I knew it would be a taste treat and my memory-buds didn’t fail me!
This is a smooth, creamy and rich tomato bisque and I love it.
Now on to the star of the show…
The Churchill’s Cheese Toasty!
It looks fabulous and I can’t wait to dig in to this toasted delight of a cheese sandwich!
Of course I had to give it a healthy dunk in the tomato bisque and Scott took a shot of me devouring it!
Wow, this is a delicious and unique take on a grilled cheese sandwich!
The cheddar was rich and creamy and the bacon was crunchy and smoky adding a nice savory counterpoint to the sandwich.
The bread was buttered and toasted and it was very satisfying and delicious.
Toasting it made it lighter than a grilled cheese and it was definitely a toasty and tasty treat!
Thanks to Scott for joining me this afternoon and to Casea and everyone at the Fox Pub & Cafe for a wonderful addition to our grilled cheese tour.
Good knight, everyone!

I’ll give the Churchill’s Cheese Toasty a three and a half slice rating!
It’s really a tasty and unique take on a grilled cheese sandwich and the Sergeant Pepper’s Tomato Bisque took it to a top-notch level!
