Cranwill’s Drive In / Root Beer Stand is the oldest drive in restaurant in Pekin. They serve corn dogs so it was on my list and I realized it’s going to be closing for the season soon so we need to get over there and start this fifth corny week of our Corn Dog Tour!
To the MBIP Mobile!
Here we are at Cranwill’s Drive In / Root Beer Stand in Pekin. This is Pekin’s oldest drive-in restaurant and it’s been in operation since 1969. Quite an historical landmark here!
They have picnic tables to sit at outside in the parking lot…
And you can also park, order and eat in your car here, hence the name, “drive-in.”
The outside and in the car dining are nice features, but I’d prefer to eat inside, so let’s go in and take a look around.
There’s the front counter and the menu behind it reveals that they do offer up a corn dog here, so we’re in business for week number five of this corny tour. Hot dog!
Mariah and Hannah were working behind the counter and took my order and smiled nicely for the MBIP Camera proving that they’re friendly multi-taskers!
The kitchen is just behind the ordering window there and this week’s corn dog meal is being made back there as I snap this photo!
I got a frosty mug of their root beer and decided to sit up here at the bar by the side window.
A green hot dog and a Black Kow can only mean one thing…
Okay, our corn dog meal is up and we’ll wait to unwrap this week’s corn dog while we…
Enjoy a side order of crispy onion rings.
And now, it’s time for the star of the show…
This week’s corn dog!
It looks big and plump, but it needs something…
And that something is a large dollop of mustard! We can’t have a naked corn dog here, that’s just obscene!
This was a nice, basic corn dog. No frills, just your basic but tasty drive-in corn dog slathered in mustard!
I washed it down with the mug of frosty root beer and it was a delicious corn dog lunch in a fun and unique atmosphere.
Cranwill’s is closing for the season this Sunday, so you’ve only got a few days to get out and have a last summer-inspired treat!
