Alright, this week’s lunch takes place at one of my favorite downtown restaurants, The Blue Duck Barbecue Tavern and I’m looking forward to having lunch with this week’s special luncheon guest star.
And you’ll be meeting this aforementioned guest star if you just keep scrolling downwards!
Here we are at The Blue Duck Barbecue Tavern. We’ll go in through the front doors, into the foyer and it’s inside we go!
Kristin was working at the host station and led us to our table in a friendly fashion. I love her smile!
As we made our way to our table, I witnessed this week’s special luncheon guest star already at a table opposite the bar…
It’s Jeff Putnam who’s been my friend and co-contributor since the days of my magazine People of Peoria and he’s added many posts here on MBIP including this tale of The Buffalo Springfield playing near Peoria. This is a great story and I appreciate Jeff sharing it with all of us here.
It was great to have lunch with him and catch up on our life details.
Caitlin took our lunch order and then it was time for me to abandon Jeff and take some photos inside of the Blue Duck Barbecue Tavern.
They have a nice bar that stands in front of the dining room.
As you can see, there’s an impressive amount of beers on tap in here. Sadly, I have to go to work in a little bit, so I’m drinking iced tea.
This mural is a reference to an Adam Sandler movie but I can’t remember which one because I can’t stand Adam Sandler’s movies.
As I took a photo of the elevated dining room above the bar, I ran into Bill Conger and John Morris from the Peoria Riverfront Museum. They’re both really nice guys and if you’re not doing anything tomorrow afternoon at 1pm, there’s a special Dan Fogelberg show happening for free in the lobby of the museum. I’ll be there and hope to see you there as well!
Meanwhile, back at our table, lunch is arriving! We started off with their award winning chicken wings.
These are full wings that are smoked and fried and we got them dressed in their Asian Buffalo Sauce and they were so delicious!
Jeff got the Pulled Pork Torta and two side dishes for lunch.
I got cole slaw and an order of mac and cheese topped off with grilled chicken slices. It was a delicious lunch and their food never disappoints!
Thanks to Jeff for joining us for lunch! It was great to see him and catch up on life with him on this wonderful lunchly afternoon!
