Yesterday marked the 55th anniversary of the release of the album, The Velvet Underground & Nico that came out on March 12, 1967, just before the infamous Summer of Love. When it was released, it didn’t sell a lot of copies, but as time went on, it became a very influential album and it’s known as the first “art rock” album.
While artist, Andy Warhol is credited as the producer, he had little to do with the actual production of the record beyond paying for the recording sessions, but he did design the infamous banana album cover.
Below are six links to online articles about this influential album and a four minute video documentary about the album and the band.
And then, of course, are the MBIP Coming Attractions as to what’s coming up on the blog next week!
