Today we’re going to be trying a new genre of pizza: Grocery store pizza!
HyVee has a food court where they feature homemade pizza right there in the grocery store.
So let’s head on over and we’ll see how good their grocery store slices are!
And here we are at the HyVee near the Shoppes At Grand Prairie. Let’s go in and find the pizza pie area.
There’s the food court over there.
They’ve got an Asian station with Asian food and sushi and there’s a section where you can build your own salads.
There’s the Italian station and as you can see from the menu, there’s a nice selection of pizza in here.
There’s some of it on display, but I didn’t see a cheese pizza among the saucy offerings on display.
A friendly woman behind the counter said she would put in a cheese personal pizza if I was interested and I told her I was, so she slid a personal cheese pizza in the oven and said it would be ready in a few minutes.
So I wandered over this display of Umland’s Crunchy Cheese.
I’ve never seen Crunchy Cheese before, so we may have to sample a bag of this unique snack item.
I don’t usually shop in here because it’s just too damn big in here!
We’re back at the Italian Station and there’s our personal cheese pizza freshly cooked up by this friendly Schnuck’s employee!
These two checked us out and now let’s go eat this week’s pizza pie. Our first entry into Grocery Store Pizza!
The have a whole dining area over here with boots, tables and I decided to sit at this counter over here that faces the far wall.
Here’s our pizza pie lunch on the counter. Let’s dig in and start another week of eating all the pizza in Peoria!
I tried out the Crunchy Cheese snacks and they were very tasty. Kind of like a gourmet version of Cheetos.
Now on to the main course…
This week’s pizza pie!
Wow, this pizza is really loaded with cheese!
The crust is a little thicker and is more of a doughy crust than I like, but it doesn’t look half bad.
I have to admit, I didn’t have high hoped for this grocery store pizza, but it was better than I expected.
The cheese was rich and the sauce had a nice tang and flavor to it.
I like my pizza more crispy than this, but over all it was a decent personal cheese pizza.
(Inside joke alert.)
I guess they don’t know that EV Grieve lives in New York and I don’t think he even owns a car, but nice of them to set this parking spot aside for him!
And now, it’s time to rate this week’s pizza pie!
——
THE RATING SYSTEM
Any rating from 0 to 5.9 is a substandard pizza that you should definitely avoid.
A rating from 6 to 8.5 is a good pizza and gets the MBIP pizza pie recommendation.
A rating from 8.6 to 9.4 means the pizza is very high quality and you need to try it out as soon as you can.
Ratings from 9.5 to 10 represent the best pizzas in Peoria (in my opinion).

MBIP SCORE
——
This week’s pizza was a pleasant surprise.
I didn’t have high expectations for a pizza in a grocery store, but while it wasn’t the best pizza I’ve ever had, it was decent and I’m giving it a 6.6 rating.
