Sadly this week’s throwback Saturday Night post is about an iconic Peoria restaurant that has closed its doors. I did my first of many Sky Harbor posts back in March of 2013, when this blog was still less than a year old.
Let’s go back and see what was happening on that Saturday night over eight years ago.
Oh Sherman…
Could you please set the Saturday Night Wayback Machine for March 18, 2013?
Whoomp, here we are back in 2013 when Corona was still just a beer!
Let’s go inside and see what’s happening.
As I settled into my seat at the bar, owner Daryl Klusendorf came over and said hi.
Daryl's parents, Bill and Ellen purchased the place back in 1971. The original Sky Harbor was located in Bartonville and they operated in this location off Farmington Road since 1996.
Ryan, who is Daryl’s son served up an ice cold bottle of Budweiser. Cheers!
They had the best piano bar in Central Illinois in here.
On this night it was a real treat because a legend was entertaining the crowd.
Jimmy Binkley was tickling the ivories and singing songs that night.
Another iconic Peorian was seated at the piano bar, artist and musician, Preston Jackson.
Daryl grabbed his guitar and joined Jimmy for a song.
Meanwhile, back at the bar…
It looks like it’s just about time for another Saturday Night cheeseburger!
Back then, I was exclusively getting a cheeseburger on my Saturday night excursions to restaurants and here’s a bird’s-eye-view of that week’s cheesy treat!
It was a tasty and delicious cheeseburger and I also got a side of their signature au gratin potatoes. What a cheesy and satisfying meal!
