I love the town of Lacon and back in December of 2014 I went and had a pizza pie and chicken wings at Pizza Peel and then traveled next door for dessert at the Coffee Hub with the owners of that establishment, Mike and Julie and the owner of Pizza Peel, Travis Guthman. Traviis had been in an auto accident and couldn’t travel down the stairs to his own restaurant, so I met him at the Coffee Hub.
Let’s go back in time and check out this fun evening. Oh, Sherman…
Please set the Wayback Machine for December 16, 2014 and…
Here we are at the Pizza Peel, the restaurant is located down in the basement, so let’s travel downwards and check it out.
I no sooner settled in and Niki our pretty waitress for the evening was delivering me a beer. A beautiful start to the evening!
Here’s the table where I placed my dinner order.
It was just a couple weeks away from Christmas and as I was taking a photo of their festive tree, I was invited back to the kitchen to watch my pizza pie get made.
That’s Andy twirling the crust in the air, adding sauce and toppings and then sliding the pie into the oven.
When I went back to my table there was an order of chicken wings waiting for me.
The wings were spicy, juicy and delicious!
Check out all of the hot sauces available! I love the selection!
Here’s Niki delivering our pizza pie! It looks fantasic!
What a wonderful looking pizza pie, let’s dig in!
I love their pizza! The toppings are fresh and tasty, but what really shines here is the crust and the sauce.
The crust is flaky and has a nice chewy consistency to it and the sauce has a nice bold zingy tomato flavor to it.
After my pizza dinner I went next door to The Coffee Hub.
There’s Mike who owns The Coffee Hub and there’s his wife and co-owner, Julie with Travis Guthman, the owner of the Pizza Peel.
I need to note here that Mike and Julie announced last week that new owners are taking over The Coffee Hub. You can meet the new owners today between 10am and 2pm today! Click here to check that out!
Travis grew up in Peoria and Pekin but moved to Greely, Colorado over twenty years ago. It was there he learned the pizza business at a local pizzeria. He started out as a dough boy and worked his way up to being the Operations Director for two high volume franchise pizza restaurants.
Then in 2008 Travis and his wife Wendy and their six kids had an opportunity to move into Travis' Great-grandparent's 105 year-old farm just outside of Sparland and they made the move. A year later they opened the PIzza Peel in Lacon and it's been a success ever since.
