Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night Take-Out starring this week’s host, Sweet Basil Cafe.
Now please welcome, from the corner of the Sheridan Village parking lot, Sweet Basil Cafe!
Here we are at Sweet Basil Cafe. This place opened up a little over a year ago and Chris Kaergard gave it a good review back then in the PJ Star.
The menu is huge and I ordered some unique items for tonight’s dinner.
As you can see from the sign, they are open and so is the door, so let’s step inside and see what’s happening.
Whoops-a-doozy, all of a sudden we’re experiencing a little technical difficulty.
Usually at this time in the blog, I’d feature some pictures of the inside of the restaurant and maybe a photo of someone who works there holding up tonight’s dinner. Well that isn’t going to happen this week.
There was a friendly and nice young woman at the hostess station as I walked in and after I paid for my meal I asked her if I could take a picture of her holding the meal and a few shots of the inside of the restaurant.
I had given her my card and told her it was going to be for the blog and she said she’d have to talk to someone first. So she walked to the other side of the restaurant and showed my card to another woman and they were talking and looking over at me occasionally.
It was kind of awkward and after a few minutes, the woman from the came back, looked a little uncomfortable and said, “I’m sorry, you’re going to have to come back tomorrow and ask the manager.”
Well, you know what that means…it’s time to play…
What’s The Wrong Answer?
What’s The Wrong Answer is a game show starring me as the host and I’m kind of making this shit up as I go along here!
Basically this is a game where I give a scenario and the contestant has to pick the wrong answer.
Today’s contestant is Sweet Basil Cafe and here’s the scenario.
A man who writes and publishes a popular blog here in Peoria comes in to your restaurant, buys a take-out dinner and asks if he can take some pictures of an employee holding the dinner and some photos of the inside of the restaurant, so he can put them on his blog.
Here’s the two answers you can pick from:
A. “‘Of course you can! We appreciate you thinking of us and featuring the restaurant on your blog! Feel free to take as many photos as you like! Thank you so much!”
Or:
B. “I’m sorry, you’re going to have to come back tomorrow and ask the manager.”
Alright Sweet Basil Cafe, what’s the wrong answer?
Um…I’m going to say that the wrong answer is: B. “I’m sorry, you’re going to have to come back tomorrow and ask the manager.”
Congratulations, Sweet Basil Cafe, that is the wrong answer and you win this edition of What’s The Wrong Answer?
Well, actually you lose because I have a lot of shit to do tomorrow, so the odds of me coming back to beg you to let me give you free publicity are pretty much zero to none.
But thanks for playing and being part of, What’s The Wrong Answer?
We now return to the MBIP Blog, already in progress!
Here we are back at the MBIP World Headquarters Kitchen and Tasting Area where I can take as many pictures as I like.
As you can see, we’ve got a large Saturday night meal to unpack and like always, we’ll start it off with a giganzo can of Bud Light. Cheers!
For the evening’s first course, I got a cup of chicken noodle soup and it is delicious!
There’s big chunks of juicy chicken, pasta and fresh carrots swimming in a tasty chicken broth. This was a nice start to our dinner!
As I mentioned, the menu at Sweet Basil Cafe is huge and it has some very unique selections.
On the appetizer section they have several different kinds of egg rolls and I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Egg Rolls and they were amazingly tasty!
It’s a crisp, deep-fried egg roll stuffed with spicy shredded Buffalo Chicken and melted cheese. I got a side of honey mustard sauce to dip them in and they were delicious!
We’re off to a fabulous start to our dinner tonight and now on to the main course!
Another item on the menu I’ve never seen offered anywhere else is Prime Rib Pasta.
Wow, that’s a large portion! It looks and smells fantastic!
I added a little Tabasco sauce to the dish and dug in.
This was such a flavorful pasta dish! In addition to the penne pasta and chunks of juicy and tender prime rib, there’s spinach, mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes in a rich and creamy alfredo sauce.
This was so delicious and satisfying!
For dessert I got the Banana Bread Foster, yet another unique and different selection!
This is deep-fried banana bread topped with vanilla ice cream, candied pecans and…
Sweet caramel sauce.
I warmed up the sauce in the microwave so it was warm as I poured it over this decadent looking dessert!
What a sweet ending to a wonderful meal!
Sweet Basil Cafe certainly serves up some delicious food, if only you could take pictures in there it would be perfect!
