Live, From Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night Take-Out, starring this weeks host, Oliver’s North and featuring special guest star, Carissa and transitionary photos of Julie Motherway and Marty.
Now please put your hands together to welcome this week’s host, from the North side of Peoria…Oliver’s North!
It’s a horrific night out, it’s freezing and it’s snowing, so that can mean only one thing…Oliver’s North Pizza & Pub! It’s right down the street from MBIP World Headquarters and their food is always amazing.
Let’s clean off the MBIP Moblie and head on down the slippery road.
Yikes, the road hasn’t been plowed yet and it’s like driving on an ice skating rink out here!
Have I ever mentioned how much I hate winter?
Okay, here we are at Oliver’s, we made it! Whew!
There’s Oliver’s North and as you can see, there’s outdoor seating on the spacious patio, but as inviting as that looks, we’re getting take-out tonight.
I love the heart on the door and I really love that directional sign! It reminds me of this scene from Goodfellas: “One goes this way, one goes that way.”
The bar is so nice in here. Carissa was the bartender on duty and she said my food would be ready in a few minutes. I was hoping that maybe my friend, Julie would be in here, but there was no sign of her.
Carissa said I could take some pictures and we’ll bring up Julie again, just keep on scrolling, scrolling, scrolling.
As you can see, they have a fabulous selection of draft beer and you can get them to go!
This is not only my favorite picture in Oliver’s, it’s one of my favorite things in Peoria!
Year’s ago when I first saw it, I remember thinking, “Why is there a picture of Oliver North in here?”
And then it hit me and I laughed out loud!
I love the Pulp Fiction picture too, it’s from Jackrabbit Slim’s Twist Contest.
There’s Carissa with tonight’s massive Saturday Night Take-Out dinner!
As I mentioned earlier, I was hoping my friend Julie would be here because I haven’t seen her since before this whole pandemic disaster happened.
Sadly she wasn’t here, but below are a trio of transitionary photos of Julie and I as I slip and slide back to the MBIP World Headquarters.
A Trio Of Transitional Photos of Julie and I Out On The Town At Different Times Through The Years
Julie has an exhaustive career, she’s the Executive/Personal Assistant to James Kelly at the James Kelly Law Firm, she’s also the Property Manager for Kelly Properties, LLC and if that wasn’t enough, she’s the Director of Operations and Human Resources for Oliver’s Pizza & Pub, which is also owned by James Kelly and why I thought there was a chance of her being here tonight.
Well, she wasn’t there, but here’s a trio of photos of Julie and I, out and about!
The first one is from a Christmas drink at The Publik House, below that is from a lunch at Chicago Pizza & Grill and the last is the two of us at Oliver’s North!
Sorry I didn’t see you on this trip, Julie, but looking forward to seeing you in post-pandemic times!
And just like that, whoosh, we’re back at the MBIP World Headquarters Kitchen and Tasting Area!
I opened up a giganzo can of Budweiser and check out the Tower of Take-Out Boxes from Oliver’s North!
Tonight, we’re having a four course feast!
First Course: Hand-Battered Fried Mushrooms
I’ve never had the hand-battered mushrooms and thought tonight would be a good night to try them out. They look delicious and they came with a side of Ranch Dressing. I’m not a big fan of Ranch and will save that for Terry Grawey.
I improvised and poured some of Syberg’s Famous Wing Sauce in a red plastic bowl (not to be confused with Syberg’s Anonymous Wing Sauce).
I dipped a mushroom in and it was delicious! Crispy batter on the outside and a juicy mushroom on the inside. The wing sauce added a nice zing to the flavor!
We’re off to a fantastic start here!
Second Course: Three-Step Buffalo Wings
The chicken wings here are amazing and there’s many flavors and styles to choose from.
I got the Super-Spicy JK BBQ Sauce and they were so tasty. These wings have won several awards at the annual Peoria Wingfest, so they are truly award-winning wings.
Here’s a picture of Julie and her crew accepting one of their many awards at a Peoria Wingfest!
Third Course: Beer-Battered Onion Rings
For the third course we’ll enjoy an order of the beer-battered onion rings.
These are thick-cut onions, deep fried in a house made beer batter and I decided to give one a dunk in the wing sauce and it was crispy and delicious!
Fourth and Main Course Of The Evening: The BBQ Bacon Burger
I’ve never had a burger at Oliver’s, so I thought that would be a good choice for this cold and snowy winter evening.
I got the BBQ Bacon Burger and it’s a half pound burger with cheddar cheese and topped with a mountain of crisp pecan wood smoked bacon and fried haystack onions. The bun is buttered and toasted and it comes with a tub of house-made PBR Barbecue Sauce.
It looks and smells simply amazing!
I put the bun back on and as you can see, this is one huge cheese burger but luckily I have a big mouth and effortlessly took this first bite.
I’ve eaten hundreds, if not thousands of cheeseburgers in over ten years of blogging and this is definitely one of the finest in Peoria and beyond!
The burger is tasty and juicy and the bacon, haystack onions and tangy PBR Barbecue Sauce add so many delicious flavor levels to this fantastic cheese burger. Plus the bun is toasted, buttery and bakery fresh!
Then after the first bite, I decided to do something to add even more flavor to this insanely delicious cheeseburger…
Boom, into the wing sauce it goes and oh my god, what a fabulous cheeseburger!
It was definitely worth risking my neck for by driving in that horrible blizzard!
Oliver’s is now open for indoor dining as well as take-out, so stop by and support this wonderful local pizza parlor and pub!
