Over seven years ago (seven years ago?) we had a fun pizza-themed afternoon touring Butch’s Pizza in Morton, Illinois.
Butch’s Pizza is Central Illinois’ favorite frozen pizza and I’m proud to be friends with the Carey family who are the family that created this tasty frozen pizza in the early ’80’s.
Butch’s pizza started out in Butch and Barb Carey’s kitchen and they now operate out of Morton, Illinois and they employ over 40 people.
Let’s go back in time and take a tour of their pizza palace in Morton!
Oh, Sherman…
Please set the Wayback Machine for November 7, 2013 and…
Whoomp, here we are at Butch’s Pizza in Morton, Illinois. There’s one of their trucks with their highly recognizable logo that was designed by Barb Carey many decades ago.
There’s our tour guide for the day, Tim Carey!
That’s Tim’s brother Steave with Tim.
Tim holds up one of the original Butch’s pizza signs, back when they were known as Butch’s Original Pork House Pizza.
Before the tour I had to put on a hair net and I was instructed to point at myself.
As you can see, I always do what I’m told.
There’s the pizza assembly line, they get shrink-wrapped and then put into the freezer.
Tim is sliding a fresh Butch’s into the pizza oven in the Butch’s Pizza kitchen and tasting room.
Now he cuts the pie, note he’s slicing it up into squares and not slices. Interesting! Well, at least to me!
Wow, this was one delicious pizza! Pepperoni, savory sausage and rich melted cheese on top of a crispy crust.
Nothing like a Butch’s Pizza, comfort food at its finest hour!
This time I was instructed to point at my pizza.
Once again, I did as I was told. I’m a very good boy.
Here’s the founder of Butch’s Pizza, Butch Carey. A man who lived his dream and passed it on to his family. You can read about Butch and his wonderful wife Barb right here.
