It’s the third week of our eight week tour of going out to some of my favorite local shops and spreading some holiday cheer.
This week we’re going to one of Peoria’s oldest and cherished candy and nut store, The Nut House on Main Street.
Let’s head on out to this sweet spot in downtown Peoria
Check out the Apollo Theatre sign, how did they know we were coming here? I’m not sure, but let’s take their advice and go next door to…
The Nut House! I always love coming here and it’s such a sweet Peoria tradition.
They’ve got a new schedule, they’re only open Thursday and Friday from 10am to 4pm.
Let’s go in, take a look around and find out what this new schedule is all about
I always love walking into The Nut House. It takes me back to when I was a kid and we’d take the bus downtown and go see a triple feature at one of the movie theaters down here. We’d always stop and get candy at The Nut House.
The Nut House has a salty side and a sweet side, let’s take a look at the salty side first.
——
The Salty Side
They have the biggest selection of fresh, salted and unsalted nuts in Peoria. There’s nuts in the counter display, nuts on top of the counter display and nuts on a shelf on the wall.
This is one nutty, nutty place!
There’s some fresh nuts roasting away in the front of the shop.
Okay, time to check out the sweet side of The Nut House!

The Sweet Side
Here’s the sweet side of The Nut House, there’s about every kind of candy known to humanity in here!
Check out all of these sweet treats on display in here!
The little chocolate booze bottles are new in here and there’s also fresh ice cream to enjoy in here as well.
I love these archival photos on the wall.
There’s the neighboring Apollo Theatre that we passed in the beginning of the post and a shot of The Nut House back in 1959.
I met Bruce inside and he reminded me that we met earlier when he attended a Marty Monologues show.
It was great to see him again and he showed me his own personal candy and nut mix that’s available here at The Nut House! It’s the Bruce Special, how cool is that?
Mary was working behind the counter and she put together a package of the Bruce Mix for the next customer who’s going to come through the door.
Mary told me that the new limited schedule is due to slow business, so please stop by and purchase a sweet treat from The Nut House when you can. Let’s keep this sweet and salty legendary Peoria tradition alive, people!
If you need some candy on other days, their sister store, Jane’s Sweet Addictions is open seven days a week at Northwoods Mall.
While we waited I went and touched the scale that you’re not supposed to touch. It’s something I always do at The Nut House! Fun!
Minutes later, Sarah walked through the door and we gave her the Bruce mixture for a holiday treat.
Great to meet Sarah and proof that it’s the most wonderful time of the year!
Another sweet ending from a post at The Nut House!
Mary told me that they’ve shortened the hours because business has been slow. Please stop by The Nut House and buy some nuts and/or candy for your holiday festivities.
The Nut House is a Peoria tradition and we need to support this local business! So stop by for a sweet treat tomorrow or Friday!
