From the first day I started doing this taco series, I’ve had several suggestions to try a new Mexican restaurant that’s opened downtown on Water Street
The name of this Mexican eatery is Catrina’s Express and last week my friend Wes sent me an email and said I should try out their tacos.
And so, Wes, these tacos are for you, my friend!
Catrina’s is listed as being on Water Street, but they’re actually just a little up the street from there.
I parked my car and let’s head down to this new Peoria Mexican restaurant.
And whoomp, here we are at Catrina’s Express!
The sign says to go this way and I did and here’s the entrance to Catrina’s Express!
Time to start this week’s taco adventure!
You order up at the front counter…
So I checked out the menus and placed my order. I got the okay to take a few photos while I wait so let’s start snapping!
There’s lots of drink selections in here from bottled soda, juice and water and there’s also fountain drinks.
There’s some specialty artwork on the wall and there’s tables facing out on to a view of downtown Peoria.
As I took a shot from the back of the restaurant, Li came out with this week’s taco dinner order.
Li and her husband Antonio own Catrina’s Express. She told me that they opened last July and it’s been a little tough with the pandemic and so many businesses that aren’t open downtown right now.
If you get a chance, stop by and support this new local business and let’s help keep them in operation!
Here we are back at MBIP World Headquarters Kitchen and Tasting Area, time for this week’s taco dinner!
My non-taco item of the week is the Cheesesteak dinner.
This is a Mexican version of a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich and it looks and smells delightful! Let’s dig in!
Oh my God, this is so tasty and delicious!
It’s a fresh tortilla with slices of juicy grilled steak, grilled onions, lettuce and pico de gallo all covered in a super rich and creamy cheese sauce.
I took a bite and then added some rice and this was such a delight for the tastebuds!
I’ve never had anything like this at a Mexican restaurant and you definitely need to check out this wonderfully rich, decadent and unique dish!
And now, it’s time for another edition of…My Three Tacos!
As you can see, they don’t skimp on the ingredients here. These tacos are huge!!
I started out with the steak taco and it was so tasty.
The steak is plump and juicy and the homemade green sauce added a nice kick to the tasty taco!
Next up I sampled the grilled chicken taco and it was a taste treat as well.
All the tacos have diced onions and cilantro and they’re housed in a warm, freshly-baked tortilla.
The pork taco was as delicious as the other two.
What a satisfying trio of tacos!
And I’m telling you, you have to try out their Mexican version of a Philly Cheesesteak, there’s nothing else like that in Peoria!
Li and her husband need some help to keep this restaurant alive in the upcoming months, so stop by and sample some of their delicious food and help to keep this local business thriving!
