Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night Take Out starring this week’s host, Tavern 41, with special guest stars, Bill and Chris.
Now please welcome this week’s host, Tavern 41!
My Nephew Greg gave me a gift certificate for my birthday back in April for Tavern 41. I think it’s about time to cash this in! Thanks, Greg!
Here we are at the Sterling Plaza Strip Mall on Sterling Avenue (where else?)
It’s been over a year since we visited here, so let’s go in and see what’s happening inside.
Bill was cooking up pizza and other goodies behind the counter and he had my order all set to go. I paid him and then asked if I could leave my food on the counter while I took a little tour and snap some photos.
Bill graciously told me to take all of the photos I want and so here we go! Lights, camera…action!
After I typed that, it made me think of this!
There’s the lunch buffet wagon and beyond that is the large dining room. There’s no one here because it’s three in the afternoon, but hopefully they’ll have a good crowd tonight.
I love the FOOD sign with the bicycle in the middle!
There’s two TV’s on the far wall and a nice neon sign in the back.
Here’s a shot from the very back of the dining room.
If your kid’s get restless, there’s a nice arcade for them to pass the time.
And opposite that is the adult arcade with a whole row of gaming machines!
And if you go all the way to the back, there’s a cozy little bar. As you can see, there’s a nice selection of beers on tap and as I took a photo of the liquor inventory on the back wall, I saw Spuds MacKenzie in the upper right corner. Always love to see him!
As I was heading back to get my food I ran into the owner of Tavern 41, Chris Herold. I first met Chris seven years ago on the last night of Pizza Inn here. After that he opened up Westown Tap in West Peoria and two years ago he re-invented the Pizza Inn as Tavern 41.
He said that business has been okay, but I could sense it’s a bit of a struggle in these pandemic times, so if you’re reading this order a pizza or stop by and have dinner there this week. Now more than ever, it’s important to shop and eat local!
And through the magic of these here interwebs, poof, we’re back at the MBIP World Headquarters Kitchen and Tasting Area!
I’ve got a three course dinner here, so let’s unwrap the first entree!
We’ll start off with an order of the Hot Wings.
The wings are baked and they’re tender and juicy with just the right amount of heat.
We’re off to a wonderful start!
I had to get a pizza, it’s just the rules!
Last time I got a thin crust pizza, but this time I went with the New York Pan style pizza.
I added a little hot sauce for some extra zing and the pizza was so tasty and delicious. The crust is a little thicker, but not overwhelming like deep-dish pizza.
I usually don’t get dessert, but I noticed a Cinnamon Stromboli on the menu and I had to try that.
This was out of the universe delicious, you can read more about it in the review below, but this was such a sweet treat and the perfect way to end this fabulous three course take-out dinner!
I started this week’s take-out feast with an order of the Hot Wings. The wings are baked and they have a nice spicy flavor and just enough heat. They’re tender and juicy and a nice starter for a Saturday night meal.
For the main course, I got a New York Pan pizza. I got bacon, onion and cheddar cheese on the pizza and it was so delicious. It’s cooked in a pan and the bottom of the crust is nice and crispy and fluffy above. The sauce was savory and tasty and complimented the bacon and onion perfectly.
Dessert was a fabulous sweet treat! I got the Cinnamon Stromboli and it was borderline decadent!
The soft crust is drizzled with cinnamon and frosting and inside it’s stuffed with melted butter and pecans. If you’ve never had this, you definitely need to try it out! It would also be great warmed up for breakfast!
