We’re all going through rough times in one way or another right now. Some have it worse than others. One group of workers that are close to my heart have been hit hard and that’s bartenders. Bars have been shut down across the country for social distancing reasons and bartenders are out of work and can use some help.
Well, there’s a website where you can adopt a bartender and one of them that’s featured on this website appeared on my 365 bar crawl blog.
On October 3rd, 2010, I went to my 267th bar of the year, The Reade Street Pub & Kitchen. I had my Sunday dinner in there and I met Marcia Herold who was bartending that evening. Here’s some photos from that night.
There’s the Reade Street Pub & Kitchen, they’re still there and you can check out their facecrack page right here.
As I was snapping photos I met Lenny, who told me his sister was a bartender and that she’d be on duty shortly.
And sure enough, shortly after I took that photo, Marcia showed up and I got a photo of her with Brian and Lenny.
As I look at this photo, it seems like another lifetime when I met them.
And there’s Marcia on duty, check out the entire post right here. She’s really a nice person and she now tends bar at the Greenwich Street Tavern which is in the same neighborhood. If you’re on Twitter you can follow her by clicking here.
Sadly, she’s out of work right now, but you can find her on the Adopt A Bartender website and send her a virtual tip.
Let’s send a little love and cash to her from Peoria and pay something forward to a hard-working New York City bartender! It’s little things like this that make good things happen during extremely bad times. If you can afford to adopt this bartender, that would be great! Let’s pay it forward people!
Cheers to Marcia and everyone in New York City! Let’s send some love and cash from Peoria to New York!
And if you’re an out of work bartender, you can be added on here as well, all the information is right here. Cheers, keep six feet apart and let’s look forward to a time when this is all over. It might take a while, but it will happen.
