Okay, this is kind of a strange post for me. It was just 11 days ago that MBIP pal and Wheelman, Scott Turley took a road trip to Pekin for the eighth trip of the MBIP 26 week food tour. Little did we know that in a few days the whole world would change. I’ve never been nostalgic for something that happened just 11 days ago, but I am now.
So, let’s take a trip back in time when things were normal and hope that this massive hiccup in the world gets over soon!
There’s the familiar knock that happens with every road trip and…AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!
Whew…that’s more like it. Scott’s here and time to hit the road!
On the road again! This is a mini road trip as we’re just headed over to Pekin to Hacienda Fuentes Cantina & Grill, which is the sister restaurant of El Taco Loco, which was our second stop of the tour.
And here we are in Pekin and there’s Hacienda Fuentes straight ahead in the strip mall.
Here we are and there’s Scott leading the way inside.
Here’s the main dining room and there’s a bar in the back which is where we decided to eat this week’s Mexican meal.
Here’s our view of the back of the bar.
The people working on this day were a little camera shy, so Scott donned a sombrero and served up the giganzo margaritas. Gracias, Scott!
In addition to the margarita we got some fresh chips and salsa and placed our order.
This woman wanted to do a dueling photo with me using her phone, so here we go!
There’s the dining room with colorful hand-painted tables and sturdy wooden booths line the walls.
There’s another dining room behind this archway with more colorful tables and Mexican art on the walls.
Meanwhile, back at the bar…
Our meals are served! Scott got a combination meal with beans and rice and I got the Steak Fundido and wisely told them to hold the beans.
There’s Scott digging in and he said it was delicious!
My meal was so tasty! The rice was just a little spicy and it complimented the Steak Fundido perfectly.
The Steak Fundido is slices of Ribeye steak topped with spicy chorizo sausage and covered in a layer of melted cheese.
The steak was tender and succulent and it blended well with the spicy chorizo sausage. The melted cheese added a smooth richness and this was a delicious Mexican meal!
On the way out we had a Ramones flashback moment!
Oh and one more thing…you might want to take that sign down for a while!
