There’s a new place to get tacos and other Mexican treats from on Sheridan Road called Cuco’s Tacos. While this is a new take-out restaurant, the owners are veterans of serving up tasty Mexican food here in Peoria.
Julia Salvatierra and Jose Garcia are the husband and wife team who opened up this taco eatery last month and they’re also the owners of Hacienda El Mirador, a popular Mexican restaurant in Junction City.
This is a tricky time to open a restaurant with a pandemic raging on, but Cuco’s Tacos specializes in take-out dinners, which is perfect for today’s troubled climate. You can read more about the restaurant in this PJ Star article written by Dave Eminian.
I went to Cuco’s Tacos and sampled three tacos and also had a sweet treat to end my meal. Scroll on down to see my trio of tacos and my delicious Mexican dessert!
Cuco’s Tacos is located on Sheridan Road, near Loucks Avenue. I did a post from here almost eight years ago when it was a soul food restaurant.
Let’s go in and see what it’s like now!
It’s nice in here!
I thought I saw a familiar face behind the counter and it was Liz, who I met at a Saturday night event at the Ivy Club, back in the summer of 2019. That seems like another lifetime ago!
It was great to see her again!
They have a great selection of tacos here and I chose three for this evening’s taco meal!
While Liz and the cook prepare our taco treats, let’s take a look around in here.
There’s cards and menus to go up at the front counter.
While Cuco’s Tacos is mainly a take-out restaurant, there is seating in here when the mitigation rules allow it.
The Cuco’s Tacos logo is painted on the side wall.
There’s the other side of the restaurant with a large screen TV on the wall.
Okay, this wins the award for Xmas decoration of 2020! A toilet paper Xmas tree! I love it!
This literally “wipes” the competition!
There’s Liz with our taco dinner to go and whoomp, here we are back at the MBIP World Headquarters Kitchen and Tasting Area.
I’m starting off with the complimentary chips and salsa and they were crispy and delicious!
Now it’s taco time!
I love how the tacos are individually wrapped! And Liz gave me a sampling of three sauces for the tacos. I’ll try one on each taco, perfect!
And now it’s time for, the debut episode of…
My Three Tacos!
All three tacos are Mexican soft-shell street-styled tacos. You can get hard shells too, but I prefer these.
The Chorizo Taco was so tasty. The tortilla was warm and soft and the Chorizo sausage was spicy and delicious!
Next up I sampled the Asada taco, which is their steak taco. This was also a taste-sensation!
The taco was stuffed with juicy and plump bites of seasoned steak and it tasted fantastic with the onions and cilantro!
The third and final taco was also a tasty treat! This was the Chicharron taco and it was filled with juicy and delicious pork meat.
An now for a sweet treat for the end of this tantalizing and tasty taco dinner: An order of Churros!
Churros is a deep-fried dough pastry sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. They included a warm chocolate dipping sauce and these were off-the-charts delicious!
A sweet and tasty treat to end this wonderful taco dinner!
I loved all three tacos, but my favorite was the Chorizo! They have other tacos to choose from and a lot of other Mexican treats on the menu.
Stop by Cuco’s Tacos and check out Peoria’s newest place for tacos and Mexican food!
