Today is the 51st anniversary of the Rolling Stone’s free concert that they held at Altamont Speedway in California back in 1969. It turned out to be one of those events that showed that the idyllic ’60’s were coming to an end.
The Stones hired the Hell’s Angels for security and paid them in beer. They didn’t realize what huge mistake this was until people started getting beaten up by the notorious bikers and ultimately a man got murdered at this free concert which was supposed to be the “West Coast Woodstock.”
