Live from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night starring this week’s hosts, The Chef & The Baker and a cavalcade of special guests for their first Supper Club dinner of the summer!
Now please welcome this week’s hosts, The Chef & The Baker!
About a month ago I was having lunch at The Chef & The Baker and I found out that they have special Supper Club dinners with limited seating now and again at their restaurant. I’ve only ever had lunch there, so I signed up and now here we are for the first Supper Club dinner of the summer season at The Chef & The Baker!
Let’s go inside and start this special Saturday Night edition!
A Brief Tour
Before we settle in, we’ll take a brief tour of the inside of the restaurant. Lots of photos on the front counter and walls and I love the mural on the side wall, which was done by Devin McGlone.
The Chef, The Baker and Emily!
Someone’s looking over the counter at me taking photos and I see a familiar face back in the kitchen.
There’s Karen the Baker on the left, the Chef, Ian is on the right and in the middle is their daughter, Emily. Their son Gabriel was with relatives and there’s Ian starting this evening’s dinner.
The Dinner Tables
The dinner tables look lovely and the guests have started arriving, let’s go meet all of them.
The Dinner Guests
From the top, the guests are: Heidi and Andrew; Katie, Wallace, Bill and Karen; Seth and Ann; Kelsey and Chris and Jessica and Clay.
If Jessica looks familiar, you may have seen her on HOIABC where she’s the morning co-anchor of Good Morning Illinois.
Great to meet all of the dinner guests for the evening!
There’s my seat and my view of our dinner table.
There was homemade crackers and dip on the table and there’s the menu for our five course dinner!
Amuse Bouche
The dinner started off with a marinated grape tomato and whipped brie wrapped with a grilled eggplant. It was a delicious start to what I think is going to be an amazing dinner!
The Appetizer
Next up was beet cured gravlax served with sieved egg yolks, preserved lemons and wasabi caviar.
I have to confess, I have no idea what any of this is, but it is so tasty and a wonderful blend of flavors!
The Salad
Okay, this is a little more familiar territory, a salad!
The salad consisted of Arcadia greens mixed with marinated concise tomatoes, red onion, pepitas and shredded cheddar cheese tossed in a maple vinaigrette.
This is one of the best salads I’ve ever had and everyone was raving about the dinner at all of the tables!
Meanwhile, Back In The Kitchen…
I snuck back to the kitchen and saw Ian and Karen preparing the main dish.
Tucked away in a corner, Emily was enjoying a bowl of mini tomatoes and generously offered me one of them!
Okay, back to the table for the main course of tonight Supper Club dinner at The Chef & The Baker!
The Entree
The entree for the evening’s meal was seared chicken with artichokes and capers wrapped in phyllo dough and served with a shiitake mushroom jus. It was accompanied by herb whipped potatoes, haricot vert bundles and yellow squash.
This was such an amazing and flavorful plate of food, I don’t know if I’ve ever had a better meal in my life! Everyone at the table agreed this was an unbelievable dinner and it wasn’t over yet!
The Dessert
Dessert was homemade Tiramisu and like the rest of this dinner it was so delicious and tasty!
Ian and Karen said there would be more supper club dinners coming up, so you should monitor their facecrack page for the next one because seating is limited and the food is amazing!
Thanks to Karen and Ian for an unforgettable five course dinner and thanks to the other dinner guests for putting up with the MBIP Camera!
From The Chef To The Dishwasher
After dinner everyone said goodnight and I go to witness the transformation of The Chef to…
The Dishwasher!
Luckily I had enough money to pay for my dinner, so I didn’t have to help Ian out doing the dishes at the end of the evening!
