I usually get up between six and seven in the morning and start putting the blog together so it can go up before noon. That’s the deadline I give myself and if I miss it it wrecks my entire day and night. I’ve been running behind this week with the blog and thought I’d figure out today’s Casual Friday post when I woke up.
This post is basically just taking a photo of something that has a memorable meaning to me here in the MBIP World Headquarters and it’s kind of easy to do, hence the whole Casual Friday theme.
But I had trouble sleeping last night and when I woke up I looked at my alarm clock (and yes, it’s from the ’70’s and I have no idea how it’s still working) I saw this:
Aaahhhh, I’ve overslept, I have to try to get something for the blog and I have to meet friends at 12:30pm for lunch and I’ve got nothing!
I bolted out of bed and looked around the MBIP World Headquarters for inspiration and there in the corner of the Kitchen Tasting and Testing section was everything I needed for today’s post. It’s one of my favorite pieces of writing about nothing. Perfect!
This is from a page from the novel, Cool Hand Luke, which was later made into a movie of the same name, starring Paul Newman. I love that movie, but I love the book even more.
The book was written by Donn Pearce and it’s based on his true life memories of working on a chain gang. The book is centered on a character that refuses to conform to the rules of how everyone thinks you should live and ends up on a chain gang for his sins to society. I love these lines from the novel and I read them almost every day, here they are:
After dragging in the nickels, dimes and quarters, Luke showed his hand to Bullshit Bill. He had a pair of nothing. Smiling he murmured softly, “Just remember, man, wherever you go and whatever you do, always play a real cool hand.”
So this is this week’s pair of nothing, hope you enjoyed it. I’m off to play a real cool hand. Hopefully!
