One of the goals of this seven month meaty journey is to find unusual places here in Peoria to get steak at. But I also have to hit the obvious places and we’ve been to some of Peoria’s classic steakhouses and this week we hit another one of them. Alexander’s Steakhouse has been serving up delicious grilled steaks since the early ‘80’s and it’s one of my favorite restaurants in Peoria. In addition to great grilled steaks they have the best salad bar in Peoria and if you don’t believe me, I’ll show you the proof of that as you scroll on down this beefy post!
Here we are at Alexander’s Steakhouse, one of Peoria’s classic steakhouses. Let’s head up the wooden staircase...
And into the front foyer of Alexander’s. That’s Chelsea manning the front counter. I’m meeting my friend Julie here who we last saw back in December on this steak tour when we had steak and eggs at The Publik House. That was just about five months ago to the day! Time flies when you’re shoveling dead cow down your gullet! I came early to get some photos of the place before Julie arrives so let’s take a little look around in here.
There’s a second floor in here and I rarely travel up here, so I thought I would tonight. I’ve never realized there’s a full bar up here and that’s James behind the bar. I’ve never met a woman named James before and she told me it was a nickname her dad gave her. Great to meet you, James!
Here’s some aerial shots of the dining room down below.
I traveled back to ground level to get some photos of the dining room and the bar down here. There’s a familiar face behind the bar, Joe the bartender armed with a full bottle of Crown Royal! He doesn’t mess around!
Okay, Julie should be here shortly, so I sat down at our table and Stacy our waitress came by and said hi.
Julie arrived, but I forgot to take her photo, but I’ll make up for that in a minute. One of the reasons I forgot to take a photo of her is that we both were in wonderment at the “Mess of Perch” entree on the menu. Is it sloppy Perch or simply a whomping, stomping pile of perch on a plate? Well we’re on a steak tour, so we’ll have to come back to find out the answer to this fishy Mess of Perch conundrum.
Remember I told you that Alexander’s has the best salad bar in Peoria? Well, here’s the proof, it’s lit up in neon on the wall! On the way to the salad bar I noticed a picture featuring Peoria Stories by Ken Zurski, very cool! Okay, time to get in line and get our non-cow portion of the evening.
Here’s our salads that we created, Julie’s is on top and mine is below. The one commonality in our salads is the topping of Chinese noodles. It was at this point I realized I hadn’t taken a picture of Julie...
So I took two while she was eating her salad. She’s looking pretty as always and what a cute smile! Our salads were tasty and now it’s on to the main course!
Here at Alexander’s they display the steak in this refrigerated case in the dining room. If you like your steak really rare you can just take it right from the cooler and slap it on a plate.
All the steaks here are grilled and here’s the grill in the main dining room. You can grill your own steak, but I’ve never done that. I’d rather have Johnny, the grillmaster at Alexander’s cook it up. Johnny’s been grilling steaks here for over 30 years and he’s an expert at this. You’ll see the delicious results in a second!
And here we go with the 23rd week of steak dinners! Julie got the Steak Kabob and I got the Kansas City Strip steak. Joe the bartender recommended this so that’s what I got.
As I was getting ready to cut into my steak I noticed that they have their own steak sauce and they bill it as the “ultimate steak sauce.”
So I put a dollop of it on my Kansas City Strip and this steak was out of this world delicious. It was perfectly grilled and it’s a bone-in strip steak. Really tender and tasty, one of the best steaks on this tour! Thanks to Johnny for doing a fantastic job grilling our steaks and thanks to Julie for meeting me for dinner! It was wonderful having dinner and conversation with her and the steak was fantastic! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
