Last Wednesday I put up a Dan Fogelberg Peoria Tour and people really seemed to enjoy it, which always makes me happy. That post got me thinking about other people who are from Peoria and became famous in the entertainment world and one of those people is Sam Kinison. And I got to meet Sam once and I’ve written about it, so I thought that would be a fun subject to post links to online stories about. Sot that’s what I’ve done today and below that are the upcoming Attractions for the week of MBIP!
Sam Kinison—1:29AM, Chelsea - I met Sam in the ‘80’s and wrote about it on my Marty After Dark blog, you can read that story and see pictures of Sam and myself clowning around during a radio show at the Peoria Civic Center.
The Devil and Sam Kinison - A lengthy and somewhat judgmental Rolling Stone feature on Sam from 1989 when he was at the height of his career.
One More Time, Sam Kinison's Nasty Wit Lands Him in Hot Water - An article from People magazine that’s kind of a Cliffs Notes version of the Rolling Stone feature.
Sam Kinison, 38, Comedian, Dies; Wife Injured in Head-On Collision - Sam’s obituary from 1992 in the NY Times. Ironically he was trying to clean up his act and had been sober and he was killed by a teenage drunk driver. I’m sure he would’ve seen the humor in that!
Sam Kinison: A Life in Comedy Looks Back on an Explosive Career that Pushed the Boundaries of Stand Up - This article includes audio from Andrew Dice Clay talking about his relationship with Sam Kinison.
Luciano: Comedian called this ‘home’ - I love Kinison’s line about Peoria in this 2012 column by Phil Luciano on the 20th anniversary of his death.
Last night I had dinner at Jimmy’s Bar and then saw and met Tom Arnold at the Jukebox Comedy Club! It was a fun night and you can read about it and see photos tomorrow. Tuesday is yet another entry in the seven month steak tour and it’s a road trip to a classic steak house that is part of a lot of people’s memories! Tune in on Tuesday to see what that steak house is! I had an idea for Wednesday that got postponed due to corporate bullshit and hopefully I can turn that around in a week or so, so now I have to figure something out for Wednesday, any ideas or requests out there? Thursday will be another random person for the on-going People of Peoria series and Friday I’m going to present the Fast Food Friday that didn’t happen the other week when my keyboard stopped working. Saturday will be another tasteless and somewhat crude cartoon and then we’ll be back with the Sunday Links. It never ends! Have a wavy gravy Sunday and we’ll see you all tomorrow!
Related Posts: Sunday Links: Groundhog Day, The Beatles First Concert In The U.S.A. and Super Bowl Halftime Shows.
I hope you slide under a gas truck and taste your own fuckin’ blood...
Surprise link...click on it, I dare you!

The Obligatory Church Of Rock Sunday Plug
I’ve been doing a weekly MBIP feature on the radio show The Church Of Rock which is broadcast live, worldwide out of Oregon on Sunday nights. Every week I pick a song and give a little talk about it before the song is played on the show. The hosts of the show are Rev. Derek Moody (some of you know him as Bloody Mess) and Sister Tracy. The show starts at 9PM CST and my segment will air at 9:30PM sharp! The song I chose this week is a Joan Jett tune and I’m going to tell my favorite Joan Jett story. Be there or be L7! You can listen live by streaming from the KSKQ website right here!
