Live, from Peoria, Illinois, It’s Sunday Night at The Apollo Theatre with your host, Marty Wombacher presenting the Marty Monologues featuring special guests, Amber and Joe Bohannan and the Marty Monologues Featured Players: Chelsea Tamms, Sarah Marie Dillard, Brandon Mooberry, Colleen Kimball and DJ juanGoblin! Now, please get ready to enjoy the behind the scenes action from last night’s Marty Monologues!
The Rehearsal
The first people to see the show were my good friends, Amber and Joe Bohannan. I first started seriously preparing for the show the first week of August and in the beginning I couldn’t quite figure out how to do this. I got really depressed and texted Amber and told her I didn’t think that I could pull this off and she sent back an encouraging text and told me that she was sure I could pull it off and the next day I started figuring it out. So thanks for the words of encouragement, Amber!
Thanks to Amber and Joe for coming over early the day of the show so I could run through the whole thing in front of them. It gave me the confidence I needed because this was the single most nerve-wracking thing I’ve ever done in my life! And thanks for working the door and selling last-minute tickets, you two are the best!

The one thing I learned while doing this is that if you’re going to have a one man show, you should surround yourself with people who are better than you are, then you’ll end up looking real good. So that’s what I did and these are the people that took the show over the top:
1. Chelsie Tamms: Chelsie is the driving force behind her business, Lettering Works and she came up with the logo for the show and designed the posters. This was the first thing we did for the show and she did such marvelous work it inspired me to try to do the best I could.
2. Sarah Marie Dillard and Brandon Mooberry: I wanted live music to open and close the show and I asked Sarah and Brandon who are part of the band, Sarah & The Underground. They are fabulous musicians and started the show off on such a high note that even if I totally sucked, people still would’ve walked away happy after hearing them play the opening and closing songs. Plus it was their wedding anniversary, Happy Anniversary Sarah and Brandon!
3. Colleen Kimball: Colleen is the Business Development and Art Consultant for Technicraft and she oversaw the production and printing of the shows posters and tickets. They turned out fabulous and gave the show a distinctive look before it even started.
4. DJ juanGoblin: I wanted to have music before the show and songs in between the stories and DJ juanGoblin did a wonderful job of picking out songs that fit the show perfectly! Plus he uses all vinyl which added to the show’s throwback feel. The songs mirrored the stories and gave the crowd a feeling of what was coming up next.
Thanks to all of you, you took the show to a level I never could’ve dreamed of!
The show took place at the Apollo Theatre on Main Street, it’s such a beautiful theatre and if you’re interested in a venue for a show of your own, call Mary at 309-673-4343. It was so cool seeing my name on the marquee!
There’s the poster in the Apollo window, this thing is actually going to happen!
Here we are setting up. The theatre looked beautiful as always, but as I stood on the stage and looked at my notes and out at the empty seats, pretty much all I wanted to do was throw up and run away as fast as I could!
Here’s the backstage area and a shot of the crowd as I walked onstage. Somehow I made it through and people told me that they enjoyed it. It’s all a blur to me, but thankfully I made it through the whole thing!
Either Sarah or Brandon took this photo and this was a moment of pure relief! Thanks so much to the crowd behind me for coming, this was one of the most terrifying and fun nights of my life!
The after-show party took place at Kenny’s Westside Pub! Owner, Sean Kenny let us have the back room and there was free chicken wings for everyone, thanks so much for letting us have the party at your fabulous pub, Sean!
There was a prize give-away and here’s some shots I took of the crowd. Thanks to Relics Gifts and to Chelsie Tamms for donating items for the give-away!
And here’s some of the smiling faces who attended the show and the after-party at Kenny’s Westside Pub! Thanks so much to everyone who came to the show, this was really a dream come true and it wouldn’t have happened without all of you! Thanks to all of you for the support!
Now it’s time to work on The Son of The Marty Monologues! But I think I’ll take a nap first.
