Live, from Peoria, Illinois, it’s Saturday Night Cheeseburger starring this week’s host, the Hy-Vee Market Grille and featuring special guest stars, Brittany, Andee and Moe! Now please welcome this week’s host, the Hy-Vee Market Grille!
Normally I shy away from chain restaurants and the Hy-Vee Market Grille falls into that category, but I’ve heard good things about this place and I also got a flyer in the mail that featured an unbelievably looking tasty cheeseburger. I started the Saturday Night Cheeseburger series way back in April of 2010 when I was doing my 365 bar blog. You can see the first edition of that series by clicking here. I continued this through my other New York blogs, Marty After Dark and Tripping With Marty. When I started the MBIP blog I continued this tradition until I kind of ran out of places to get a cheeseburger in and around Peoria. Here’s a list of some of my Peoria cheeseburger stops. I revised the name of this series to just “Saturday Night” and I go and get a meal somewhere and then post it on Monday. Well, tonight we return to Saturday Night Cheeseburger and you’ll see this burger if you keep scrolling along. In the meantime, let’s get inside, it’s freezing as fuck out here!
I walked up to the hostess station and met Brittany who’s a waitress here. I noticed the bar and asked If I could eat my dinner there and she said that was fine. So let’s go get settled in at the bar!
The bar’s very nice here and what’s even nicer is Andee who showed up with an ice-cold bottle of Budweiser! Now let’s take a look at the menu and see if I can find that burger that looked so good in the flyer I got in the mail.
The first thing I noticed was a picture of the Bacon Jalapeno Wontons in the appetizer selections! I have to try those and there’s the burger, it’s a Mac-N-Cheese Burger and it looks incredible! Moe came and took my order and we’ll see if the food is as good as it looks on the menu.
If you’re into craft beer, they have a huge selection of bottles and beers on tap. I had to take two shots of the beers on tap to get them all into the photos.
The seating in here is all booths, which is really nice and I like the mod decor in here!
In addition to a large beer selection, they have a whole wall of wine over here!
Meanwhile, back at the bar, it looks like it’s just about time for Saturday Night Cheeseburger to kick into high gear!
Here’s the first course, the Bacon Jalapeno Wontons. These look even better than they did on the menu and they are so delicious! The wontons are fried and sit on top of a melted cheddar cheese and maple syrup reduction. When you bite into the crispy wonton it’s filled with a rich cream cheese with jalapeno peppers and bacon. This is so tasty and probably could’ve been my whole meal! But there’s more to come!
And here’s the star of tonight’s dinner, the Mac-N-Cheese Burger. It looks nothing short of amazing! But before we dig into this...
Let’s try out the coleslaw which I got as my side dish. I’m really picky about coleslaw and it’s prepared just the way I like it here. Not too creamy and the slaw is crisp and has a nice tart and sharp flavor.
Okay, time to try this monster of a cheeseburger!
You have to eat this with a knife and a fork (I felt like Terry Grawey while eating it) and it was so delicious and tasty! You can read more about this in the review below, but in all my years of eating cheeseburgers, this is definitely one of the more decadent and delicious cheeseburgers I’ve ever eaten. And I’ve eaten a lot of cheeseburgers in the last seven years!
I wish I could tell you how that pickle tasted, but after that giganzo burger I couldn’t eat another bite! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
I started off with the Bacon Jalapeno Wontons and these were a real taste treat. The wontons are deep fried and crispy on the outside and they’re sitting in a tangy melted cheese and maple syrup reduction. When you bite into them the crisp wontons turn into a rich and creamy treat as the cream cheese that’s mixed with jalapeno and bacon happily zap your taste buds! There’s so many flavors happening in these wontons, from the rich cream cheese to the smoky savory bacon to the heat of the jalapenos and it’s really balanced out nicely with the tangy melted cheese and sweet maple reduction. As I said earlier, this could’ve been the whole meal and I would’ve been satisfied. But there was so much more to come!
The main course was the Mac-N-Cheese burger, but before I dove into that I had the coleslaw which was perfectly prepared. It was not too creamy and crisp with a tart fresh flavor. It was a nice palate cleanser after the wontons. Then I dug into the Man-N-Cheese Burger. It’s a half pound burger topped with white cheddar macaroni and cheese, colby jack cheese, bacon and Panko bread crumbs. It sits on top of a slice of sourdough bread and it’s one of the most decadent and delicious cheeseburgers I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating! The mac and cheese is really rich and compliments the smoky bacon and savory burger perfectly. The sourdough bread was bakery fresh and this was almost like a casserole instead of a cheeseburger and it’s one of the most tasty and satisfying burgers I’ve ever had!

Four Galloping Gourmets—I highly recommend this meal, but it would be wise to bring a friend along and split the whole thing, I’m still stuffed from it two days later!
