I just discovered that Peoria has a medical marijuana dispensary here in town. It’s called Trinity Compassion Care and it’s located on University Street. Medical marijuana is a great and natural alternate medication for lots of ailments and whenever I hear the word, “marijuana,” my mind drifts to thoughts of eating. And of course now that I’m thinking about both eating and Trinity Compassion Care, now only one thought is on my mind: “Can I eat my lunch in there?” Well, let’s go find out!
Here we are at Khaki Jack’s, the official lunch supplier for the “Can I Eat My Lunch In Here” segments! Tony, who owns the place always adds a nice fun touch to the lunch and the food here is some of the best in town! Great lunch and dinner to be had here and there’s also buckets of free peanuts on the bar and tables! How could you go wrong? Let’s go in and pick up our lunch!
As you can see the luncheon crowd is starting to show up and there’s Chuck behind the counter with our lunch! Perfect! There’s the lunch on the passenger seat and there’s also a mystery bag that Chuck said Tony threw in especially for this lunch! I can’t wait to see what this is! Okay, off we go to see if we can eat our lunch in Trinity Compassionate Care! My stomach’s already in knots!
Okay, here’s what happened. I went in and talked to a very nice fellow in the reception area and after the first few awkward minutes of me explaining that I wanted to barge in and eat my lunch in their place of business and take photos, he took my card and said he’d have to go talk to the General Manager.
This is the part that’s always kind of sickening for me. Waiting in the foyer while I know the conversation down the hallway is: “I don’t know, it’s some nut who wants to eat his lunch in here!” Anyway, after about five long, stomach-churning minutes, Ben, the General Manager came out and I explained to him about the “Can I Eat My Lunch In Here” segment and he seemed amused by the idea. He explained that due to client confidentiality and state regulations I wouldn’t be able to take pictures in there, but he was very nice about it and told me about the medical marijuana dispensary they run. They have free consultation with a registered nurse who helps with the whole process if you’re new to this. You can read about Trinity and the services they offer by clicking on their website right here and on their facecrack page here.
I appreciate the nice atmosphere and reception, but I have to go eat my lunch somewhere, so it’s time to hit the road!
Okay, I always try to have a back-up plan just in case the first lunch destination doesn’t happen. I had a feeling that the odds for eating today’s lunch in Trinity was 50/50 at best due to the nature of the business and being regulated by the state, so I thought I had a fool-proof plan for today’s backup business and this is this place, Fastsigns. This business is just about a block away from Trinity on the other side of University and my idea for here was this: Go in and explain that I not only want to eat my lunch in here, but I want to get a sign made that I’ll pay for while I eat the lunch to prove how fast they are! I was going to eat my lunch and have them make me a sign that said: “Out To Lunch.” I thought it would make for a funny segment and also promote their business and give them some free publicity.
Well, this is turning out to be the “Can I Eat My Lunch In Here” day from hell! I went in and a gentleman came to the counter and I explained my idea to him and said that if I could eat my lunch in there, I’d also buy a sign that they could make while I eat my lunch and it would be free publicity. Well, he didn’t seem too excited about that and told me there really wasn’t anywhere to eat lunch in there and that the owner wasn’t in and so he couldn’t let it happen. I really didn’t want to have to try and find some other place, so I reiterated that I’d pay for a sign and it would be free publicity and once again he told me that since the owner wasn’t in, it couldn’t happen. I asked if he could call the owner and he replied with: “Well, I guess I could try and text him,” but then he never did. After asking one more time and being told no, I got back in the car and was feeling pretty dejected. I really didn’t get this. I mean I was going to buy something and give them free publicity and I get turned away?
Oh well, I’m going to try not to obsess over this and figure out our next plan of action. But one more thing, Signfast, you might want to rethink that logo and put a space between the words, “sign” and “fast.” Maybe it’s just me, but if you’re a sign company and you don’t know how to space words properly...well, to quote a certain Oompa-loompa President: “So sad!” Okay, time to figure out what to do next!
I have to admit, I was pretty depressed at this point. I’ve never been turned down by two places in the entire time I’ve been doing this and by now I’m starving like you know who and really want to eat some lunch! Plus I have to get to work soon and the clock is ticking. I really have a fear I won’t be able to do this and then I have to figure out something to do for the blog after work. Ugh. Just when I was about to veer the MBIP Mobile into oncoming traffic and call it a day, I looked over at the strip of businesses there at the corner of War Memorial and Sheridan Road and had a brainstorm! Okay, damn the naysayers and full speed ahead, I think I spy a place that will be perfect for this “Can I Eat My Lunch In Here” segment!
And this is the place: Peoria Monument! I figured this would be perfect because it’s a unique business and more importantly, I’m dying to eat my lunch in here! I tell you, I’m cracking myself up over here! Hey check out this tombstone underneath their sign (which has the words properly spaced! That’s right, I’ll never let that go!)
How perfect is that last name! This couldn’t be any better if I planned it! And check out the birth and death dates, 4/20! That takes us back to the beginning of this segment! Let’s go in, I have a good feeling about this place!
Wow, it’s really nice in here and I love the paneled walls! I didn’t see anyone in the front room, so I went through the door and found Becky there at the desk and told her about the lunch deal and asked...okay, I pleaded with her to let me do this here, because I was just about out of time. Becky told me the owner had the day off and my stomach sank. I countered with the fact that it would be free publicity and she smiled and said, “Okay, why not!” Yes! Someone who finally gets it! She said they didn’t have a lunch room but there was a bench up front I could sit at and eat my lunch. Now this is a smart woman who thinks on her feet! I guarantee you she’s probably never spaced words wrong in her whole life (told you I’ll never let that go!) Okay, time to finally have lunch!
On our way to the bench we passed this etching of The Last Supper! How fitting!
Lunch is finally served! Check out the sign on the pizza box, ha ha ha! A little Scooby Doobie humor fromTony! I love it! And speaking of love, check out the Khaki Jack’s homemade pizza! It’s one of my favorite pizzas in town! And there’s also an order of Bosco Sticks! Perfect, let’s dig in!
Everything is so good and as a testament to Khaki Jack’s pizza, Becky at first declined to join in on the lunch because she said she ate already, but after taking a look at the pizza she decoded to try it. She said she loved it and asked for directions to Khaki Jack’s! Looks like you’ve got a new customer, Tony! See Signfast, letting me eat lunch in your place brings you customers, and yes, I’m officially obsessed over them not letting me eat in there. I should just let it go...but that’s really doubtful!
Okay, now it’s time to open this mystery package that Tony sent along!
Ha ha ha! Tony must’ve thought I was going to get some free samples from Trinity and included a whole bag of marijuana munchies! There’s Sleazy Cheese, Twinkies, Funyuns, Cheese crackers and Skittles! Nice work, Tony, Cheech and Chong would be proud of your selections!
Peoria Monuments has been in business here in Peoria for over 29 years. They really have a nice selection of monuments and tombstones for family and loved ones. And they let me eat my lunch in here, so they’re the official MBIP Hero of the Day! Check out their website below!
Uh oh, look at this monument! That’s the Angel of Obsessiveness on top of the monument by the way. Thanks again to Becky from Peoria Monument for playing along and letting me eat my lunch in there, you saved the day! Okay, I have to get to work now! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
