In case you missed it the other week, I put up a notice that there’s been a little scheduling change here on MBIP. I’m not posting on Fridays and Saturdays anymore so I can work on a book that I’m writing with my friend Lisa. However I didn’t want to totally abandon my Friday bar blogs, so I thought that once a month I’d go to a bar and blog about it. I thought about doing a “First Friday” blog, but that concept is done to death, so I decided to do this on the third Friday of the month. And since this is the third Friday in August, it’s time for the debut of the newest feature here on MBIP: The Thirstythird Friday!
I wanted to start this series out with someplace I had never blogged about and I’ve decided to go to a bar off of Sterling called, “Biggie’s.” That name is pure irony because it’s probably one of the smallest bars in town. It’s also within spitting distance of Aurelio’s Pizza, so I thought I’d gather some friends and we’d have a little pizza party in what could possibly be Peoria’s smallest bar. And who are these friends I’ve gathered? Well, they’re right below this sentence!
The Friends I Gathered
From left: Joe, Amber, Steve, Kathy and Steve. They’re all wonderful people and I’m lucky to have them as friends. As my mom once said about Amber and Joe: “That’s really nice of them to be your friends.” Ha ha ha! One of my favorite quotes!
Biggie’s Bar
Here’s we are inside of Biggie’s. This is really a cozy and friendly bar. As you can imagine, it’s mainly filled with regulars, but even if it’s your first time in here you still get the feeling of being a regular in here. That’s Fletch bartending, actually it’s the Son of Fletch! I found out that he’s the son of Red Barn regular, Fletch who’s been featured on the MBIP blog many times! It’s a small world, but as Steven Wright once said, I’d hate to paint it. For a small bar, they have an impressive eight beers on tap and if you come in here without a shirt or hat, there’s plenty behind the bar to fix you all up!
Here’s a shot from the back of the bar and the specials are listed on this chalkboard at the far end of the bar. There’s a gaming room in the back corner.
That’s the owner of Biggie’s on the left, Sara with Fletch in the middle and Biggie’s regular, Teresa on the right.
Picking Up The Pizza
After hanging out in the bar for awhile, I went next door to Aurelio’s Carry Out to pick up our pizza for the evening. That’s Brittaney behind the counter. She was busy with another order, so I took a photo of the Biggie’s VIP Text List. After a few brief moments Brittaney appeared with pizza and appetizers. I love it when that happens!
The Pizza And Appetizers
Here’s the food transferred over to Biggie’s. We got chicken wings, cheese sticks and toasted ravioli for appetizers. They came with a trio of dipping sauces and they were all delicious!
There’s the row of pizza pies! It was a nice variety ranging from plain cheese to chicken and mushroom to sausage, bacon and onion and a bunch of other stuff I forgot about. You can see all the different varieties on their menu right here.
The Pizza Party
Here’s everyone digging into the pizza! Everything was really tasty and we all had a really fun evening of telling stories and hanging out. It was a blast and I’m going to try and gather everyone again for the third Friday in September, so stay tuned for that upcoming festivity!
Suddenly...Tomatoes!
Suddenly tomatoes appeared on the horizon and we all know what that means. It means it’s time to call it a night and we can all ketchup with each other later. I’m really cracking myself up over here! Thanks to Amber, Joe, Kathy, Steve and Steve for coming along and hanging out for the first Thristythird Friday here on MBIP! And thanks to Fletch, Sara and everyone at Biggie’s and Aurellio’s for a fun and tasty evening! We’ll see you all tomorrow...well, actually there won’t be a post tomorrow, so we’ll see you all on Sunday!
