Back at the end of May the bar Hangovers announced a logo contest to commemorate their third year anniversary, here’s the facecrack post they put up:
So I made a logo and went and turned it in. My friend Amber recently designed a logo for the contest and we’ll take a look at that tonight and see how it compares to mine and other logos that have been turned in at the bar. But first, there’s more logo news, one of my favorite restaurants in town, Los Jimadores has a new logo on the outside of their building. So I’m going there for dinner with Amber, Joe and Jon and then we’re going to go go and logo over to Hangovers.
We all met at the MBIP World Headquarters and after hanging out for a bit we went over to Los Jimadores to check out their new logo. Before we see the new look, let’s take a look at a photo of the building I took back in May of this year.
There it is! Most of us remember that this used to be the Pepe Taco restaurant and I believe it was the first Mexican restaurant in Peoria. Nice that Los Jimadores has kept the Mexican tradition alive in this building. Okay, time to see the new look of the place...
Wow, it really looks nice! I love the logo and the lights around the arches! Very nice, now let’s go inside. Just seeing this building makes me hungry!
I love it in here, it’s so colorful and welcoming. There’s a good crowd in here and we chose to sit at a booth. Our waiter was quick on the draw and brought some margaritas to the table in a flash. I think he said his name was Dave, but it could have been Dan...I really need to start writing this stuff down! There’s Jon, Amber and Joe at our booth.
They brought us some chips and salsa to start our meal off and I really like the way that they give everyone an individual bowl for the salsa. It quashes the constant fear of a double-dipper in your crowd.
We placed our dinner order and I took a few photos of the place. The specials of the evening were Chimichangas and 27 ounce margaritas. That’s one big margarita! There’s the bar in the back with the tequila keg. There’s the side dining room and all the artwork on the walls is very impressive and colorful.
Meanwhile, back at our booth...
Dinner has arrived! The top two photos are Jon and Joe’s dinner and I can’t remember what they had. I really should start...oh never mind! Amber got a taco salad and I got a Mexican egg dish. Once again, I didn’t write the name of it down, but it’s scrambled eggs with chorizo sausage and other spices cooked into them. It’s served with tortillas and it’s so delicious. I wrapped the egg/sausage mixture up in a flour tortilla and it was like a spicy Mexican breakfast burrito. Very tasty and satisfying and Amber, Joe and Jon all said their meals were excellent as well. And Jon ate my beans, so he gets extra credit! The food here is always top-notch and tonight was no exception to the Los Jimadores dining experience!
After dinner I got a photo of Eduardo, the friendly owner and Kenya, who’s a waitress here. The food is fantastic and it’s one of the friendliest places in town. If you’ve never been you should definitely try it out soon! Okay, we’ve seen logo number one, now it’s time for the second logo of the evening at...
Hangovers bar on Lake Street. Let’s go in and Amber will unveil the logo she designed for the contest. I’m anxious to see the other logos that have been turned in for the contest!
Here we are inside and there’s Amber with her logo! She did such a great job with it! Hangovers is becoming known as Peoria’s premiere dart bar and it’s really cool how she worked that into her design! I have a feeling this is going to be the winning logo for the contest! It’s definitely better than the one I did!
Barb was the bartender on duty and she loved it too! She took it and showed it to one of the owners (who was a little camera shy, so there’s no photo of her) and they both said it was definitely the best they had seen so far! One thing has changed a little in the contest though and I’m a little confused by it, but they’re not going to totally revamp the existing logo and now they want something designed to add to it. But they loved Amber’s logo and design so much, they’re going to have it made into a t-shirt! We’ll definitely do a post when the shirts are done and let you know how to get one!
But for now, Barb is hanging Amber’s logo up with the other ones that have been submitted so far.
Whoops, it looks like right now, it’s just me and Amber in the contest! Well, I concede because Amber’s is definitely better than mine! The contest runs until the end of August, so we’ll keep you updated on it and let you know when the t-shirts with Amber’s design are ready for sale at the bar! Amber does logos on a freelance basis, so if you have a bar, a business, a band, a website or a blog that needs a unique logo, just let me know via the contact page and I’ll pass it on to Amber. A logo is a really important part of a brand and as you can see, Amber knows how to really brand and identify your business in a stylish and snappy logo!
I told you that Hangovers is quickly becoming known at Peoria’s place for darts and there’s three state of the art dart boards opposite the bar. The bar is unique because down on the ground level it’s got the feeling of a neighborhood tavern...
But upstairs it’s got more of a club feeling with the lights turned down low and purple-lit atmosphere that would’ve made Prince feel right at home.
And of course there’s more dart boards up here as well! Thanks to everyone at Los Jimadores for a wonderful dinner and to Hangovers for appreciating Amber’s logo work and turning it into their next official t-shirt! And thanks to Amber, Joe and Jon for hanging out for the evening, it was a fun evening! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
