Last Saturday we celebrated Sean Kenny’s at Kenny’s Westside Pub and that post went up on Monday. Today we celebrate the birthday of the shop where I got Sean’s gifts, Relics! Last Saturday they had a birthday party and they sent me this invitation:
What I love about the invitation, other than the fact that I was invited, is that they use just one exclamation mark at the end of the sentences! Okay, let’s go to the party!
Here we are at Relics which is on Glen Avenue just off of University. I love the classic logo and big blue birds in the front window. This place is like no other and it’s open, so let’s go inside and join in on the birthday shenanigans. And yes, I’m thrilled whenever I can work the word, “shenanigans” into a sentence so I’m pretty happy right now!
The birthday celebration is in full swing in here! There’s Laurie, who’s usually on the other side of the counter, but today she’s handing out slices of Relics birthday cake. The store is celebrating it’s fifth year in this location. I signed up for the prize giveaway and then met Cathy Setterlund who told me she’s a regular MBIP reader! Very nice! Go say hi to her on facecrack, she won’t bite...well, maybe she will, I just met her!
Okay, I came here to celebrate Relics birthday and also to get Sean Kenny some birthday presents for his birthday celebration at Kenny’s Westside Pub, so let’s take a look around in here. There’s always tons of stuff to look at in here.
It’s a wide array of items in here, everything from kissing deer to candy cigarettes to t-shirts and scarves to books of saints and golden skulls. And this is all just in one tiny corner!
I’m always in a hurry when I come here because, well, I’m just always in a hurry, but being in here forces me to slow down because there’s just so much cool stuff to look at! Deb, who’s the owner who never lets me take her photo, does a genius job with the inventory in here!
Butterflies and pickles and tiny little naked ladies...oh my! And there’s locally made items in here too like Alluvian Men’s Products that are made here in Peoria. And the packaging for Alluvian is designed and produced by my friends De and Jon over at Smiley Graphix!
I met Brie in my travels and it turns out she not only has great hair, but she’s also a t-shirt designer and artist. Her latest creation is this super-cool Bigfoot Tazewell County shirt. Brie’s company is called, Madd Panda and you can check out the website here and their facecrack page right here. Madd Panda recently got national attention on the Vanilla Ice Project TV show on the DIY network! If you don’t know anything about Bigfoot (who is also known as the Cole Hollow Road Monster), Deb sent me some links and you can read about him here, here and here! The t-shirt is currently for sale at Relics so stop by and pick one up before they sell out of them!
Okay, so what did I get Sean for his birthday? Here’s all the gifts I picked out for him and I got a card from the card corner in the back of the store. I also got him a pair of socks, but forgot to take a picture of them. You can see Sean unwrapping the gifts by clicking here.
I got in line and Jaci checked me out. In addition to having a pretty smile, Jaci’s also a local artist and here's her facecrack page. She’s the one that painted those cool giant blue birds in the window. Jaci told me she has Abstract Illinois art for sale over there in that triangle. That’s the one place I haven’t looked at today, so let’s take a look on our way out!
That’s one of Jaci’s Abstract Illinois art pieces at the top and it’s really beautiful! Nice work, Jaci! There’s also all kinds of fun Peoria stuff on display here from cards to pencils to stickers and post cards. Looks like I’ll be coming back soon! Happy birthday to Deb and Relics! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
