Another chunk of Peoria history has just shut down. Wee Tee Golf Center had been in operation since 1949. In 1985, Kelly and Bruce Mehl bought Wee Tee and upgraded it to a state of the art miniature golf course with batting cages and a driving range. OSF recently purchased the land from the Mehl's and a children's hospital will be built on the acreage that housed this popular amusement center for decades. Last Sunday was the last day of operation for Wee Tee, so I went and took some photos of the last day at Wee Tee Golf Center and here they are.
Tee Time For The Last Time
Last weekend was dubbed, “Tee Time For The Last Time,” at Wee Tee and here we are. Time for some final shots at Peoria’s oldest and most popular miniature golf course and amusement center.
The Batting Cages
Wee Tee was known for miniature golf but it also had these batting cages. It’s very fast pitch hard ball, if you don’t believe me, just read the sign. Sheesh!
The Golf Shack And Driving Range
Over here is the golf shack and this place always made me think of the movie Caddyshack. Opposite from the shack is the driving range for serious golfers to get a few swings in.
Snacks, Signs, Memories And Handprints
For this special weekend, there was a table with snacks and tents set up for patrons to enjoy this last weekend at. There was also vintage signs and articles about Wee Tee through the years on display. That last shot is Kelly, Bruce and one of their daughters around the time they bought Wee Tee.
Kelly and Bruce weren’t there when I was taking my photos, so I’m not 100% sure of this, but I’m guessing these are their three daughters handprints here in the cement. Hopefully they’ll either be able to take this home or it’ll be part of the OSF Children’s Hospital that’s going to be built here.
The Miniature Golf Course
Of course, Wee Tee was always known for their miniature golf course. It’s right over here, let’s go get some last shots of it.
This is really a nice miniature golf course. It’s the only one I’ve ever played at. Now I need to find another one for next year’s MBIP miniature golf tournament, I’ll be seeking a new course out this summer and rating them. Stay tuned for that!
The Original Wee Tee Miniature Golf Course
Up in the front is the original Wee Tee miniature golf course. It’s been locked up for years, but Bruce and Kelly opened it up for this last weekend. Let’s go take a look.
Wow does this bring back memories! I remember golfing on this miniature course as a kid!
Parting Shot
Bye Wee Tee! Thanks for the fun and the memories. And special thanks to Kelly and Bruce Mehl for keeping the place running for years. One door closes and another opens up. We’ll see you all tomorrow.
