Live, from Edwards, Illinois, (**UPDATE: or Kickapoo or whatever, if you're not sure where it is, call for directions) it’s Saturday Night Cheeseburger, starring this week’s host, Ludy’s Kickapoo Creek Saloon and featuring special guests, Dom, Jessica, Setfani and Waylon! Now please welcome this week’s host, Ludy’s Kickapoo Creek Saloon!
Ludy’s is a place I’ve been meaning to come to since I started this blog over four years ago. I came out here once and the kitchen was closing, so I made a mental note to come back and now I’ve finally gotten back here. Ludy’s is in Edwards, Illinois and just a stones throw from Kickapoo, hence the name, Ludy’s Kickapoo Creek Saloon. I love the rustic farmhouse look of the place, let’s go in and begin our Saturday night in Edwards, Illinois!
There’s a welcome sign and a couple of tables that greet you as you walk in, but I thought I’d sit over at the bar. It’s pretty crowded in here, but I see a spot in the center, so let’s go plop down and get settled in for the evening!
As soon as I plopped down, I met Jessica and Dom who are the two bartenders for the evening. As you can see from their smiling faces, this is a very friendly place!
Stefani was seated next to me and she told me that she’s a waitress and a bartender in here and she was taking her dinner break. She got the cheeseburger and fries and highly recommended the burger. She topped her cheeseburger off with mayonnaise and ketchup and asked me not to judge her for this! I told her I wouldn’t, but secretly I did! Mayonnaise on a cheeseburger...yikes!
Even though I new what I was going to order, I scoped out the menu anyway. Stefani told me that in addition to the cheeseburger, Ludy’s is also known for it’s homemade tenderloin. That’s a good excuse to come back! For some reason the fact that you can order an extra bun cracked me up. What can I say, I’m easily amused!
Two TV’s are on the wall behind the bar and there’s also a menu and a half a dozen beers on tap to choose from.
There’s a small dining room opposite the bar and after I took the second photo, this family invited me to take a picture of the newest addition to their clan. The sleeping baby’s name is Waylon and he’s just three weeks old! I have a feeling he may be the youngest customer ever inside of Ludy’s!
There’s a map over here where patrons can put a push-pin as to places they’ve been to. As you can see, Illinois is pretty well filled up! You can also put up a business card over on the bulletin and some jackass put his upside down.
At the end of the bar there’s an entrance to a back room that has a communal table, gaming machines, a pool table and a couple of framed jersey’s on the wall.
Meanwhile, back at the bar, it looks like Stefani is back to work and from the looks of the napkins and condiments placed in front of me, it’s just about....
Cheeseburger time! There’s Jessica serving up the famous Ludy’s cheeseburger. I also got a side order of the Onion Tanglers and they were really tasty. After I sampled them, it was on to the main course of the evening...
The cheeseburger! Ever since I started this blog, people have told me that I need to try the Ludy’s cheeseburger and finally it’s sitting in front of me and it looks so good! The burger is huge and I got it topped with American cheese and bacon. I also added some mustard and pepper and it’s time to try it out!
Wow, this is definitely one of the best cheeseburgers I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot of cheeseburgers in my day! Here’s a short list of some of them. The burger is juicy and has a nice savory flavor, the cheese and bacon are plentiful and compliment the massive burger nicely. And the bun is toasted and bakery fresh. The burger definitely lives up to all the praise I’ve heard about it!
Max is the man responsible for the delicious burger, he was the head chef on duty and he made both the cheeseburger and the Onion Tangler’s. Wonderful and delicious work, Max! Thanks to you, Dom, Jessica and Stefani for a great cheeseburger and a fun evening at Ludy’s!
I started eating cheeseburgers on Saturday nights way back when I was doing my 365 Bar Crawl in New York CIty. Here’s a link to the first one. I’ve had hundreds of cheeseburgers since then and this was one of the best cheeseburgers ever! If you’re a cheeseburger fan, I highly recommend it! And the Onion Tanglers were delicious too!
