It’s the last Sunday in April and it’s really living up to the old saying, “April showers bring May flowers.” It’s been a rainy, cold and kind of rotten weekend, so I thought I’d continue this theme by putting up some links to movies and songs with “rain” in the title. And then we’re back “live” next week with new posts! Below the links are a few things you can look forward to next week, as we return to brand new posts on MBIP!
All Possibilities: The 'Purple Rain' Story - An interview with Alan LIght who wrote a book about the movie and soundtrack, “Purple Rain.” It’s hard to believe now, but both the movie and the title song were long-shots for success at the time.
Screen: 'A Hatful of Rain' - The original movie review from the NY Times. I first saw this as a play in high school and then read the script of the play and really liked the story. I’ve never seen the movie and I think I’ll look for it tonight online. A Hatful of Sunday Night.
Man Who Inspired 'Rain Man' Dies At 58 - I had no idea that this movie was based on a real-life person. Interesting story behind the movie.
“Rain” - The Beatles - One of my favorite two-sided singles by The Beatles is “Paperback Writer” and “Rain.” “Rain” had the first backwards vocals on a Beatles song and really great drumming and bass. This is the story of the recording and writing of the song.
“Rainy Day Women #12 And #35” - Bob Dylan - A few songfacts about the song that led off the album, “Blonde On Blonde,” which has been largely regarded as Bob Dylan’s best recorded work.
“It’s Raining Men” - The Weather Girls - Forget the song, I want to find out who has that tattoo!
Okay, speaking of rain, this stupid rainy weather kind of fucked up my plans for Monday and Tuesday. Both of the things I was going to do got cancelled because of this shitty weather, so I had to improvise and make changes at the last minute! One of those changes involved going to Richard’s On Main last night and I met my friend, Don, who introduced me to Jen and Eric and the three of them are pictured above. They’re also a musical trio called, Rachel’s Hippo and you can read more about them tomorrow! Rain also made me cancel my plans for this week’s sandwich, but never fear, I found a decent replacement at...a chain restaurant! That will be up on Tuesday and Wednesday I’ll be returning to the last stereo shop in Peoria, which I thought had closed, but it’s got a new address. Thursday will be a post I’m tentatively calling, “Stairway To India!” And then, as usual, I have no idea what I’m doing on Friday. So I’m back after a week off and I need to get things rolling here. At least I think it’s going to stop raining next week! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
