Sometimes things just kind of happen here on the blog and that’s what I really like about doing this. I call it “improv journalism” because sometimes these posts take on a life of their own and that’s when it’s really a lot of fun. This was one of those posts. I first met my friend Amber back when I was doing my 365 bar blog in 2010 and then a couple of years went by and we met again! Back in 2014 she invited me to her birthday party at her house and I asked her if I could do a blog from the party and she told me I could. Since I usually do a Saturday Night dinner thing I thought I’d get some things to make a microwave dinner at her party. I really wasn’t sure what I was going to do or what would happen and then suddenly it turned into a microwave birthday party and it was a lot of fun. It’s one of my all-time favorite posts so I thought I’d end this repeat week with a look back at this one, so here goes!
Since it was a birthday party, I went to Moxie’s to get a few presents for Amber. Then I had to go to work before the party. Some people actually think that this blog is my job and pays my bills, sadly it’s not, so I got the gifts, went to work and then...
I went to Schnuck’s grocery store. My original plan was to pick out like three or four things to make a dinner out of, but then I got excited about the party and just kind of went nuts in the microwave aisle and threw all kinds of things in the cart. I remember the woman checking me out saying, “That sure is a lot of microwave food!” I told her I was taking it to a birthday party and she looked at me like I was nuts. I get that look a lot and I’m pretty used to it by now, so I just kept moving along!
Here we are at the party and there’s Amber and Danielle enjoying some birthday beers!
And this is one of my favorite photos of all time, it’s Danielle being a two-fisted drinker! Ha ha ha!
This is just some of the food. I think there was five bags stuffed with this nukeable food.
Ta-da! Amber introduces us to the microwave oven in her kitchen. One thing that was bugging me was how was I going to cook all of this stuff and still get pictures and run around for the blog? Well, that was solved by...
Jon! He offered to cook everything and he really did a great job! Thanks again, Jon!
Most of the food was good and it was a really fun party. These Bagel Bites were a little congealed by the end of the evening, though! This is one of my favorite MBIP posts and you can read the entire thing by clicking right here. Happy birthday, Amber and we’ll see you all tomorrow!
