You’d think after doing this blog for four years and having done multiple food tours and Saturday night dinners I’d have hit every restaurant in the area by now, but there’s still places on my list to go and try. One of those places I’ve been meaning to go to is the Jubilee Cafe. I’ve not only heard good things about their food, but I’ve also heard they have fresh pie that is unbelievable. So I thought that the Jubilee Cafe would be a wonderful place for our 40th week in our year-long sandwich tour. And we won’t be traveling alone today...
There’s a car out here in the MBIP World Headquarters and behind the wheel is MBIP Pal, Contributor and owner of ACME Comics, Bob Gordon! And it’s off we go...signpost ahead...The Jubilee Cafe! Hey, check it out, that’s nice of them to welcome us on the sign and it looks like they want us to try the pie. I appreciate that, so I’ll just ignore the triple exclamation marks...well, not really, but we’ll just pretend!
It looks like a nice country diner here, let’s go inside and start week number 40 of this sandwich tour...40 weeks? How did that happen? Only twelve more to go!
Even though it’s after lunch time, they still have a decent crowd in here. Bob and I settled into a booth here in the back and while our waitress was very nice, she was also camera shy and wouldn’t let me take her picture. I guess I’ll have to go look for someone else that works here to pose for the MBIP Camera!
Here’s a shot from the back of the dining room and look over at our booth...put the texting machine away, Bob! MBIP is a no-texting zone, you’d think you’d know that by now! Sheesh!
Look at this over here, looks like all that talk about pies isn’t just a rumor, here’a whole case filled with them and they look so tasty! Our camera-shy waitress confirmed that they’re baked fresh daily on the premises! And I’ll just ignore that double exclamation mark in the last photo...well, not really...but, you know...
And there’s whole pies over in this case next to the cash register on the back counter. As Tony Soprano would say: “Pie, oh my!”
There’s local artwork over here on this wall.
Here’s two employees over at the dining counter who aren’t camera shy, that’s Heather and Amanda smiling pretty for the MBIP Camera. Thanks, ladies!
Meanwhile, back at our booth, Bob has finally put away his evil texting machine and it looks like it’s just about...
Sandwich time! Bob got the open-faced roast beef and gravy sandwich. It comes with homemade mashed potatoes and Bob said it was delicious! And now, let’s reveal the MBIP sandwich of the week...drumroll please...
Thanks, Ringo! And now here’s the 40th sandwich in the same amount of weeks...
A homemade tenderloin sandwich! I swore after our tenderloin tour I would never eat another tenderloin as long as I lived, but our waitress highly recommended this, so I gave in and ordered it. I haven’t had a tenderloin since this blog post happened over three years ago, so here goes something...
I started off trimming the outside edges and it’s really a delicious tenderloin! Crispy on the outside and it’s nice and meaty inside, I never thought I’d enjoy another one of these, but I’m really liking this sandwich!
This is definitely a great tenderloin sandwich and after tasting them for twenty weeks a few years ago, I should know! It’s big, but not so huge that it’s impossible to eat, in fact I polished the whole sandwich off and I really enjoyed it! But when I finished wolfing the sandwich down, I saw a horrible sight before me...
Bob was texting again! Godammit Bob, put that texting machine away, can’t you see it’s time for pie!
And here’s the pies we’ve heard so much about! Bob got coconut cream pie and I got the chocolate peanut butter and words fail me because my mouth is full of pie! Delicious pie...oh my!
Hey, who put this here? Ignore this photo, it’s FAKE NEWS by Bob Gordon! Pay no attention, he's just trying to make me look bad! As our Oompa-Loompa Tweeter-In-Chief would say, “So sad!” Anyway, thanks to everyone at the Jubilee Cafe for a great sandwich and fabulous pie and to Bob for driving and hanging out...but next time stop taking these FAKE NEWS pictures of me! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
Sandwich Rating
Three and a half Dagwoods—Their homemade tenderloin is worth the trip alone, but don’t forget the pie, it’s delicious!
