I try to stay away from politics here on MBIP, but you couldn’t help but hear or read about Donald Trump’s delusional/paranoid claims that Trump Towers were wiretapped by President Obama. That made me think back to some real governmental wiretapping news and the two reporters that blew the lid off of the Watergate story and eventually got Richard Nixon tossed out of the White House just like a seven-week-old bag of rotten celery. Thinking about that caused me to re-read the book, “All The President’s Men” and then re-watch the movie. Both of them are so good and below are six internet links related to and about the movie and the book, “All The President’s Men.” And then, as usual, the MBIP Coming Attractions for next week are below today’s linkage. Enjoy!
Time Machine: 1974 review of 'All the President's Men' - The original Chicago Tribune review of the book, which I find amusing because the reviewer puts himself and a personal story before his review. Ben Bradlee would’ve red-lined that!
"All the President's Men" at 40 - This is a great “Sunday Morning” interview with the reporters and authors of “All The President’s Men,” Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein. Their original notes from the Watergate stories are shown and referred to as: “The holy grail of journalism.”
Robert Redford recalls the Watergate scandal in Discovery's 'All the President's Men Revisited' - A NY Daily News article featuring Robert Redford talking about the movie version of “All The President’s Men” and a documentary that was made about the movie.
'All the President's Men': 10 Things You (Probably) Didn't Know About the Watergate Classic - There’s a great quote in here from Carl Bernstein: “...You get the truth at night and lies during the day."
Roger Ebert’s Review of “All The President’s Men” - I disagree with his criticism of the movie being more about the details of reporting than the end result, but it’s still a good review of the film and he ultimately gave it three and a half stars. I think it deserves four. I like the fact that it’s more about the details of reporting, we all know what happened in the end before the movie even starts after all! Sheesh, I feel almost like Gene Siskel here!
The Day I Met Carl Bernstein - While I was Googling around for different stories, I found this! I had no idea my story about meeting Carl Bernstein was on Google Books!
Last night I went and had a fantastic meal and Saturday evening at Los Jimadores in Pioneer Park and that will be up tomorrow. The owner, Eduardo and his pretty wife, Gisele are pictured above with a colorful margarita and a Mexican bottle of beer! Tuesday is the 39th week in the MBIP Year In The LIfe Of A Sandwich tour and it’s a special investigative and scientific report you won’t want to miss! I have ideas for Wednesday and Thursday, but I’m not quite sure they’ll happen, so I’m not going to talk about them. Friday is St. Patrick’s Day, a holiday I’m not too fond of, but I might go out Thursday and do something, we’ll see. Okay, we’re celebrating my mom’s birthday tonight and you can see a couple photos from that celebration tomorrow. Now I have to run out and get her a present, so I’ve got to scoot! Have a beautiful Sunday and we’ll see you all tomorrow!
