Way back when I was doing my 365 Bar Crawl blog in New York, I first tried chicken and waffles at legendary Sylvia’s Soul Food restaurant in Harlem. It was so good and you can check out that post by clicking right here. There’s not too many restaurants that serve up chicken and waffles here in Peoria, so when I heard that W.E. Sullivan's, Peoria’s newest Irish Pub had a chicken and waffles sandwich on their menu, I knew that I had to go. And so...well...here we go!
And here we are! W.E. Sullivan’s just opened up at the end of last year and I heard the food is really good here. Well, we’re going to find out soon...
So it’s in we go and there’s my favorite person to take a photo of at the hostess stand, Kristin, looking pretty as always and I love getting this kind of welcome! We met Kristin when the place first opened last December and it’s great to see her again!
Since we’re in here past the lunch rush, there’s plenty of seats at the bar and once seated, bartender Ryan is quick with a glass of iced tea in a Pabst glass to give the illusion we’re actually drinking beer in here! And there’s the owner of W.E. Sullivan’s, Billy Blasek. Billy said that it’s been going great in here and he recommended I try the soup of the day, so who am I to refuse this recommendation? I love soup!
And here it is, you get the best service when the owner is standing next to you! This is the soup of the day, the Southwest Chicken Tortilla soup and it is really delicious! It’s creamy with strips of fried tortilla on top and there’s big chunks of chicken floating in the creamy, rich broth. There’s just a little spice and a whole lot of Southwestern flavors in this soup! After I polished off that bowl I put in the order for the Spicy Chicken and Waffles Sandwich. We’ll take a little look around while that’s being prepared back in the kitchen.
There’s a shot of the lit-up bar and some of the beer on tap here. If you’re into beer, you need to stop by and check out their selection here, there’s a dozen beers on tap and over 30 craft and imported bottled beers to choose from.
I love the tin ceiling in here and there’s a shot of the entire bar. Yes, I’m officially out of my seat, so let’s take a little walk around in here.
Here’s a photo from the back of the bar area and another up front where there’s more dining tables. Opposite that area is another bar area that I really like. It’s kind of like a cozy club in there and I love the wooden wall with the stained glass on it. The woodwork in the bar is done by Rustic By Design. And the bar back here is spectacular!
Meanwhile, back at the bar, it looks like it’s just about...
Sandwich time! Ryan serves up the 35th sandwich of our year-long tour: The Spicy Chicken and Waffles Sandwich!
Here’s a bird’s-eye-view of the sandwich which comes with their homemade fries.
This sandwich is a real work of art, so I took three different shots of it at different angles. Billy told me that the waffle is homemade and it’s a lightly sweetened maple waffle. Okay, we've looked at this miracle of a sandwich long enough, it’s time to take a bite and see if it tastes as scrumptious as it looks...
Oh my god! I’ve had a lot of different sandwiches and flavors between bread on this tour, but this is definitely one of the best sandwiches so far! The chicken breast is plump and juicy on the inside and the breading on the outside gives it a fantastic crispy crunch. There’s an element of spiciness and heat that’s brought on by the melted Sriracha Jack cheese and the homemade Sriracha mayo on top of the sandwich. The Honey Maple waffles offset the heat with just a touch of sweet taste from the warm and fluffy waffle and this sandwich is just a taste sensation! I plan on having a judgement day from the best of this sandwich tour when it’s all over and this is definitely going to be part of that!
Here’s the gentleman responsible for this sandwich masterpiece, Chef Raul, who made the sandwich! Wonderful work, chef, thanks for a great sandwich! And thanks to Kristin, Ryan and Billy for a tasty and delicious sandwich and afternoon at W.E. Sullivan’s. We’ll see you all tomorrow!

Four Dagwood Bumstead’s—This is definitely one of the best sandwiches of this year-long tour! Such a great combination of sweet, heat and unbelievable flavor! If you haven’t tried it you owe it to yourself to go and sample The Chicken and Waffles sandwich at W. E. Sullivan’s!
