Live, from East Peoria, it’s Saturday Night starring this week’s host, Davis Bros. Pizza and featuring special guest stars, Danielle and Joey! And now, please welcome this week’s host from across the river in East Peoria, Davis Bros. Pizza!
We’ve crossed the river and here we are at Davis Bros. Pizza in East Peoria.
As you can see it’s the home of the original Davis Bros. pizza and they are open! So let’s go inside and start this soon to be cheesy edition of Saturday Night!
They have a huge dining room and a party room in the back, but since I’m dining solo tonight, I thought I’d take a seat at the bar. And no quicker do I settle in than friendly bartender, Danielle serves up an ice-cold bottle of Budweiser! She took my dinner order and the night is off to a wonderful start!
This is my view of the back of the bar from where I’m perched and I took a close-up of the quartet of beers on tap underneath that classic Budweiser neon sign.
Plastic pitchers hang overhead and check out the sign, it’s Davis Bros. Birthday! If I’d had known I’d have brought a cake! Oh well, maybe next year!
There’s comfortable leather booths lined up opposite the bar and next to the wall over here. Check out that photo, that’s the original Davis Bros. Tap that opened up at the Four Corners in East Peoria way back in 1948! They’ve been in this current location in Fondulac Plaza since 1997. In 2002, Cheryl Scott bought Davis Bros. Pizza and she expanded the restaurant to include a big party room in the back that you can rent out and they now sell frozen Davis Bros. Pizza in 40 states across the U.S.A! If you’re interested in ordering online, click here for more information on that.
There’s another blast from the past over here in the corner of the dining room. It’s the pay phone booth from the original Davis Bros. Tap! The sign inside says that the phone doesn’t make change. It doesn’t make change because it’s no longer there! But at least we have the booth and I’m thankful for this piece of nostalgia!
As I wandered back towards the bar I notice platters of thumbprint cookies and found out that these are Trefzger’s cookies! Sweet!
I moved back to my seat and it looks like it’s just about dinner time! The condiment cart has been placed in front of me and it contains...Frank’s Red Hot Sauce. Everybody all at once...
Well, this makes up for that Frank’s appearance, a Davis Bros. Pizza Pie! This is really a unique pizza and you can’t get it anywhere else. When Cheryl bought the restaurant she also bought the secret family recipe insuring that this special pizza would live on! Let’s dive in!
This pizza is so delicious and unlike any other pizza in the area! It’s got cracker thin crust and it’s so tasty! I’ll write more about it in the review below, but if you’ve never tried Davis Bros. Pizza, you need to get over there and sample it pronto!
After I wolfed down the pizza, Joey brought over a bag of a new item at Davis Bros., the Pizzaläche. She had called Cheryl, the owner and told her I was taking some photos for the blog and Cheryl told her to serve up one of these to me on the house! Very nice!
And here it is, served up piping hot. The Pizzaläche is a warm wheat roll stuffed with pizza flavored pork filling. It’s kind of like a giant soft pizza roll and it’s delicious! Thanks to Cheryl for the complimentary serving!
You’re welcome and thanks to Danielle, Joey and Cheryl for a fun and tasty evening at an iconic Pizza Parlor in East Peoria! We’ll see you all tomorrow!
The Davis Bros. Pizza is like no other pizza in the area. It’s made with a cracker-thin crust and has seasoned sausage that’s ground really fine. The cheese is layered on as slices and the pizza is cut in rectangle slices. I got mine with extra cheese and onions and it was so delicious! The crispy thin crust and the way the sausage is ground and the layering of the cheese gives it a unique consistency and the flavor is savory, spicy and tasty! The Pizzaläche was a nice surprise ending to a wonderful pizza dinner at Davis Bros!
