Just about a month ago, Lesle Van Houten, a former Manson family member who took part in the ruthless murders of Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary in Los Angeles on August 9, 1969 was granted parole after serving 48 years in prison for the crime. Van Houten stabbed Rosemary LaBianca more than a dozen times and then smeared blood on the walls of the house the night of the fateful murders. She was 19-years-old at the time and is now 68. Reading the details of this story made me think about the Manson women. I’ve always had a weird fascination with them and have read lots about them and you can too because there’s six interweb links about them below including a story about an evening I spent with my own private Manson woman! Below those links are the MBIP Coming Attractions for next week.
Fifty years later, we’re still fascinated by the Manson family women - This article starts off with a mention of a book called The Girls written by Emma Cline which is a fictional novel based on the women in the Manson Family. It then goes on to detail facts about the real Manson women, Leslie Van Houten, Patricia Krenwinkel and Susan “Sexy Sadie” Atkins and the grisly murders they carried out for Charles Manson.
The Manson Family Women, 40 Years Later - A “then and now” feature from Jezebel in 2008.
‘My Life After Manson’ - A NY Times op-ed documentary featuring former Manson family member, Patricia Krenwinkel.
Judge releases eerie audio of ‘Squeaky’ Fromme’s 1975 psych exam - Sadly the link to the audio tape doesn’t work, but I love how they refer to her as a “kook” and a “flakey freak.” Ha ha ha! Gotta love the NY Post!
Charles Manson follower ends her silence 40 years after night of slaughter - Linda Kasabian was one of Manson’s family and she was there at the Sharon Tate murder scene, but she didn’t kill anyone and was horrified by what happened. She ended up turning evidence on the family and it was her testimony that got them convicted. She was granted immunity and refused to talk to the press until this article from The Guardian in 2009.
My Own Private Manson Woman - As I said in the introduction, I’ve always been fascinated and attracted to the Manson Women. Well, I finally got my own private Manson Woman for an evening. Things started out fun but the evening didn’t end up on a very good note! And then I saw her again and ran away as quickly as I could!
Tomorrow we’ll have a post from a Saturday night at Yen Ching, which is one of the oldest, if not the oldest Chinese restaurant in Peoria! I went there with my friend Ben and we had our monthly vegetarian meal there. The ten week ice cream food tour is all done and so Tuesday we have our traditional palate cleansing post and I’ll be announcing what the next MBIP food tour is going to be and this time it’s a seven month tour! Wednesday I’m going to be doing another awkward edition of “Can I Eat My Lunch In Here?” It’s been a while since we’ve had a successful one of these on the first try, so hopefully this will break the streak! Thursday I’m going to be putting together some videos for another WMBIP video Thursday and I have no idea what I’m going to do so I guess I better go and figure that out! Have a wonderful and funderful Sunday and we’ll see you all tomorrow!
