Okay, the vacation is just about over and none too soon! I get a little antsy when I’m not doing this blog and while it’s good to take a break, it’s even better to get back to work. So here we goes! Since I was on vacation the last couple of weeks, below are six vacation-related links to peruse and then there’s the coming attractions for the first week of new MBIP updates in 2017!
Vacation '58 / Foreword '08
Before National Lampoon’s movie, Vacation, was a feature film, it was a humor article for their magazine written by John Hughes, before he ever wrote a screenplay. Of course John Hughes would later become well known for his movies that include: The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Home Alone, but it all started with this article about a 1958 vacation for National Lampoon. This is an interesting account that Hughes wrote about how it all came to be.
“National Lampoon's Vacation”: 25 Things You Didn't Know About the Classic Road Trip Comedy
Thanks to the first link, we know number one, but the rest are pretty interesting!
My $120,000 Vacation
A writer for the NY Times got to go on a Four Seasons vacation for the rich. The closest I ever got to an assignment like this when I was a freelance writer in New York was a tour of theme diners in midtown Manhattan for the Manhattan Spirit weekly newspaper and then I had to fight with them to cover my 23 dollar lunch tab! Sheesh!
The Science Behind Vacation Constipation
The last three words in the title of this article say it all!
Songfacts: “Vacation” by the Go-Go’s
Some interesting facts about the song, “Vacation” by the Go-Go’s. My favorite one comes from Jane Wiedlin (my favorite Go-Go) who confesses that during the making of the video, the entire band was, “cross-eyed drunk.” That’s my kind of vacation!
The Guy That Ruins Vacation Photos...
Yep, it’s this guy!
Well, we have some fun-filled posts lined up for the first week back here on MBIP! Tomorrow is a post from a Saturday Night @ Castle’s Patio Inn featuring special guests (pictured above), specialty pizza and Easy Rider sunglass condoms...oh my! Then on Tuesday we continue our “Year In The Life Of A Sandwich” food tour and we get a sandwich at a Mexican restaurant, which is the only Mexican restaurant that has a full sandwich menu, as far as I know, tune in and find out which one I’m talking about! Wednesday I’m traveling to a modern, yet vintage Peoria barber shop, Cullen’s Classic Barber Shop for a shave (my winter beard is coming off) and a tour of the shop and on Thursday, I think I’m going to do the annual gumball machine count at Northwoods Mall, but that’s not for sure yet, I’m waiting on something there. So it might be something else, well, you’ll see. And Friday? I’m not sure about that yet either, but I know it’ll be more fun than all of the F-list entertainment on the upcoming Make America Grate Cheese Again Inauguration Special combined! Of course, having your left nostril sand-blasted by a drooling, wart-encrusted, one-ankled dwarf would be more fun than that, but what are you going to do? Welcome to 2017, everybody! Have a funny, runny Sunday and we’ll see you all tomorrow!
